Thanks, all! Lack of blending (specifically the FO as @shunt2011 mentioned) is a strong possibility. These were new-to-me FOs and I was probably worried about acceleration so may have under blended after coming to emulsion.

Does anyone know of a good "rule of thumb" for discolouration due to vanilla content? For example, if the FO has less than 1% vanilla content will it typically discolour to a light tan, whereas up to 3% goes medium brown, etc. I'm trying to determine in which instances I can skip the...

I also assume the percentage as % of total oils. I try not to buy anything under 4% usage (preferably 6% though) and when testing new scents with a lower % I start with a 30ml sample size to see how it performs before committing to a larger volume.

I used to get rivers when I started as well. I found that soaping at a lower temp (90-100) and using a lye concentration of 33% took care of the issue for me. I've also become lighter handed on my TD (and mica/colourant in general) use which I'm sure has helped as well. All my batches still...
