    Dry flaky soap

Updated question! Well, we made another batch of the same recipe, using a new scale. WOW! It was SO much easier! Anyway, this batch is so much different. We had to wait for like 36 hours and then had to put it in the freezer to get it out of the molds because it was so soft and sticking...

    My soap stinks!

I used a new combination of EO's, but they are all new to me, so who knows! I will give it a few days. Thanks! Monika

    My soap stinks!

I swear, it smells fishy. Should I rebatch it to correct it? I am going to cut it soon, but it is stinky!!! Any tips or anything? Thanks!

    Hot Process-Experienced input needed.

I am a serious newbie, having only done one batch of soap as of yet. However, from what I have read, it would be best to start with CP to learn about the process and different types of oils and their reactions, etc with the soap making process. I am excited to be making more soap on Friday...

Newbie question about the diiferent oils

Yep, it took me a while to get it. But after a few minutes, no problem! Thanks for the explanation! Now, I just need to learn what properties are given by each of the different acids!

    Dry flaky soap

I think (I hope!) that it tastes salty to me because it is almost done processing. It definitely is not zappy anymore. :) If it were lye heavy, would it continue to be zappy?

    Dry flaky soap

Ok, I just tested my soap again (blech!, might I add!) I think it's going to be ok. One bar tasted a tiny bit salty, but the other was not at all. Is that unusual for the bars to cure at different rates? We scented the batch with 2 scents, and I tested each scent. And is salty a good...

Newbie question about the diiferent oils

I have a chart similar to the one on the right and I have seen the terms of the chart on the left, but have not yet researched them. Would you mind explaining it a little further to me? I just LOVE charts and graphs! Great job!

    Dry flaky soap

Well, I guess I just touched my tongue to it. I think I will give it a couple more days and check it again. If it's still zappy, I will pitch it and start again with a new scale. Thanks!

    Dry flaky soap

is it "zappy"? I mean if you rub a wet finger on your soap and touch the finger to your mouth do you get a "zap" or tingle (beyond the taste of soap)? I think it is a little zappy. But this is my first time :) And um, I actually put my tongue on the hunk of soap...duh. Next time I will do...

    Dry flaky soap

Well, we made our first batch of soap and tried to cut it after about 34 hours of cooling under a towel. We are trying to cut it but it is very flaky and breaking off in chunks. The calculator says that the hardness is within range. We used the Walmart recipe from this site. Thanks for any...

Newbie question about the diiferent oils

Thank you so much for the information! Off to read up... Our first batch is doing great, but it is too strong. I hope it mellows as it cures :)

Newbie question about the diiferent oils

I have used the search feature and can't find the information I am looking for. Does anyone know where there is a list of the properties that each oil offers and possibly (I know this might be reaching :)) their reactions to each other. (Ex. what combining palm and olive oil will cause the...

    Hello from Virginia!

Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome! I have been reading everything I can get my hands on. I was very disappointed that I was going to have to wait to get my oils in from an online site. Until I found the Walmart recipe! Me and my friend made a 3 pound batch last night. We divided...
