    sugar vs honey

    ok honey causes sweating and some people use sugar instead...how much would you use for a 2 lb batch and if honey (i think) is soothing for the skin, what qualities does sugar have?

    total newb lots of questions kansas farm girl, read your response and am wondering is the lard or tallow is drying to the skin? I've done three batches and I really like the hardness of lard (easy to find in France) will try tallow also. OO is easy to find as sunflower and canola but coconut...

    Help!

    help Fragola I've just made a batch with lard and a tad of honey plus wine for lather... the outside is fine but on the inside there's a tiny hole with the tiniest bit of weeping. It's only happened in the very center AND it doesn't 'zap' after being freshly cut...what do you think?

    Soap colorants -oil soluable powders

    colorants in soap I know you all are talking purples BUT.... do any of you think it's possible to use a bit of orange juice at trace to get a yellow/orange-y colour? Not so much as to affect the lye? I'm talking about a small batch.

    do you always test for the Ph level in your soaps? I think I'll have to get a family member to send some strips as the pharmacies (in France), so far as the ones I've tried, haven't got them!

    Eric, thank you for your answer and YES it helped alot! It's possible to buy duck in a tin here which I was considering trying also... I know when I put the fat in the fridge it separates and I thought the fat on top would be usable but now I think I'll use your method for the beef. Thanks...
