I love glycerin in soap, I know it's a by product of the process, but is there a way to increase the amount in soap by the type of oils I use, or is there a process which would help?
I love the muted soaps, red, yellow greens and have been attempting to replecate using annato madder ect. However although they look great they don't have that muted look. What am I missing out ? Clays or something ?
I use a cheese slicer as shown above and I've marked the board with a red line 1 inch across so I can measure easy. Much rather the wire cut to a knife. I only make small batches however.
Yes. I'll dry some lava seaweed and grind it down to a rough powder. 1% per pound of oils sounds good. I'll put some EO with it as well ill post some pics when I'm done. Thanks fall all comments.
I live on the coast so there's lots of lava For the collecting, but I would have to wash and dry it first before use. Nori is the same thing so I just wondered if anyone had used it. Thanks anyway
Has anyone used nori (dried seaweed) in soap? If so did you crumble in the sheets or soak it first, did the colour stay dark green or did it morph? It's got some really good qualities so would like to try it.!!!
If I want a strong smell in my soap how much % of EO and FO should I put in my soap. I know citrus fades in EO but I've been putting 5% and after a couple of months of cure I can hardly smell the EO,s. do you all think its a waste of time going to the expense of using EO in soap and just go...
I thought if I changed the super fat % from 5 to 10 then soap calc would show a different bubble number ? But it didn't (perhaps I did it wrong). I'll stick to 5%. Most comments I've had seem to like the lather and creaminess anyway.
Have tried a cardboard box. But the soap weight pushed the sides out giving a bowed look to the sides of the soap. If the cardboard was strong enough this may not happen though .
I'm new to soaping - only 5 months practice ! I've been trying did different recipes -oils and super fat % to see which one people like the best. when I give someone a bar of soap they all seem to like:-
1. Smell
2. Bubbly soap
3. The look of the bar.
4. Creamy(not drying )

I've used my scrapings and bits and put them in calico bags with Shea oil essential oil, oats, lavender buds or other flower heads for a bath bag. Just leave them float in your bath or use them as a scrub bag. Makes great presents.
I put the pine tar into the oil before adding lye as I saw a tutorial where this was done which she said would stop the fast trace issue. My soap didn't trace as quick as I've seen others Perhaps I didn't mix enough.
Having a disaster with the last batch of pine tar looking like lumpy mash potato in the mould, I Decided to get it in the mould this time when it was still liquid. However after 24 hours it is firm (I use the term loosely)' with a lake of black oil floating in the middle. I've tipped the oil...
Hi there good luck with your venture. If your target market is the tourist in your country I would go with local ingredients which are synonymous with the country. I would then sell through the tourist areas hotels local craft shops ect. But the comments are correct, I would make sure I had a...
Hi tanja. I thought the site was quick and easy to get around and well set up. I only looked at the soap section and can see that the customer picks his her own soap and scent. I would have thought that would be a logistical and stock nightmare and I also think most people don't know what they...
Thanks for that. Being from UK - not sure if I know what refined olive oil is ? Not the same as pomace olive oil - which is what I use.? I know of virgin and second press. Does it come anywhere near these.?
