    advice for cp soap

CP soap I get my lye at my local ACE hardware. It is $3.99 for 1 lb. I am in Montana. I use a stainless steel pot to melt my oils, a plastic pitcher for my lye/water mixture, and a pyrex measuring cup to measure out my dry lye. I find it best to use a stick blender and a kitchen scale. When...

I made goat's milk soap for the first time, and I tried to prevent gel for the first time also. The soap looks very nice and creamy but the bottom of it smells like lye. the pH is 11 and no tongue zapping. Do you think the soap is ok, and the smell will disappear when I cure it? It is an...

I tried this method for the first time 2 weeks ago. I made a bastile 80% OO, 10% CO, and 10% PO. I used chamomile EO and ground cardamom for the scent, no color. It is a yellow green bar and smells so clean and fresh. It is very hard already and has only been curing for 2 weeks. Is this typical...

Where do find insurance for small soap business

insurance I don't sell my soap, but I have about 110 bars of soap in my house right now, so I am starting to think that I should. I checked with my homeowners insurance agent, and he quoted me $350 a year, and you can pay it month to month. I am considering a start at the local farmer's market...

    My rebatching method

I chop up the soap that I want rebatched, usually most of it is fairly fresh soap that didn't turn out the way I wanted. I put it all in my crock pot on high with a little water and canola oil. I stir it often and wait for it to melt down. I warm a small loaf mold in the oven at 170. I do all...

Thanks Thanks for all the info. I usually gel my soaps, but I am in Montana and could easily put it out in the garage where it is 29 degrees right now to try to prevent gel. Bubbles your soaps look great gelled so I will probably try that for my first one. Carolyntn, I read in thsi forum that...

    Gelling in the oven?

stupid curing accidents So my first oven gel turned out to be my favorite soap yet, my second looks good. My third is a story. Apparently, I neglected to screw my mold together tight enough and when I went to check on my soap, half of it had melted out the bottom of the mold and into the oven...

    Rebatching different batches?

my rebatch The second rebatch came out smelling great. I gave up on the cinnamon, and went with some mixed citrus. It covered the bad smell wonderfully. Now the bars smell really clean and mild. I was able to get them pretty close to maroon too. I used the extra trim to make little balls for...
