    Vanillin can be a villian

I am trying to think of something with a Montana, outdoors, wildlife, theme. Since it smells like white chocolate, huckleberry, and looks like a swirly iced cupcake, I am thinking ot calling it Bear Dreams. At least I think that is what bear would dream of.

    Vanillin can be a villian

Look what I found this morning I went down to my curing rack and the color is evolving even more as they cure. I think that they look more like Jasper than Geodes now. Any of you Rockhounds will know what I mean. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee4 ... ution1.jpg...

    Vanillin can be a villian

As we all know frgrances with high vanilla content can be our enemy and change the color of our soap. I was trying to make a white chocolate scented soap with a purple huckleberry scented swirl in it. I used titanium dioxide and violet ultramarine for my colarants. I also added a little cocoa...

Needing advice on how to make a Honey Mead soap

Friends that have a local mead winery, asked if I could come up with a soap made from their mead. The first batch I made was a nice lfeeling bar, but it was lumpy and the coconut oil separated, leaving white specks in the soap. The second batch seized immediately and the coconut oil hardened and...

I never want to line a mold again.

I have the HDPE molds, and I have to line them with freezer paper. The bottoms also are warped a little, if you are like me and do some soap in the freezer and some CPOP. I do still use them but I don't love them. I bought some of the baking silicone molds and they are too soft and the sides...

I like the cuisanart 200 smartstick that kellyann mentioned. I like that the blade comes off so you can wash it. I have had no trouble with it.

What do you listen to while soaping?

I am addicted to audiobooks. Listen to them during my commute to work, when I am gardening, sewing, soaping, cleaning. and exercising. Sometimes when I have a really good book I tell myself that I can only listen to it when I am exercising, it motivates me to get on that eliptical I have been...

Not enough water in soap recipe

I made this soap on Wednesday, gelled, and left it in the cooler for 48 hours. Took it out of the molds and cut it last night. It turned out fine. I put my personal soap stamp on them this morning and they are slightly firmer than my usual recipe. I found it easier to work with than some of my...

    Anyone with a Woodfield mold?

My husband is making me a mold. He is currently building a mold to pour the silicone into in order to make the silicone liner. How thick is your silicone liner on your Woodfield mold? is it perfect or would it be better if it were a little thicker or thinner. Thanks for the input. I will let...

Uplands Molds - With or Without Cut Lines?

I ordered my Upland mold 2 months ago. I have sent several emails, and called twice with no luck getting a response. I am pretty sure that they are out of business. My husband bought some materials and is going to try to make some for me. If they work out and are not too much hassle he may be...

Not enough water in soap recipe

Thanks, guys you are such a help. I am not thinking straight. Stress really does affect the brain. It is funny how when I am with my parents and helping with my dad's care, I am fine, when I get home and try to go about my life I am spaced out.

Not enough water in soap recipe

I just returned from a trip to go help my father with his cancer treatment, so I am a little distracted, but I made a mistake on my water measurement. I printed out my recipe from my soapmaker3 software. I am making my normal base recipe Castor Oil 3 ounces 5.8% Coconut Oil...

Anyone having trouble with Upland soap mold company

Thanks, that is too bad, sure is a lot of that these days. The hospital where I work just sold our dialysis unit to a private company. So all of us staff work for someone else, that we know very little about as of May 15th. Like I wrote a lot of those kinds of changes going on.

Anyone having trouble with Upland soap mold company

I ordered a mold from them a month ago. I got an email confirmation with an order #, but my mold has never arrived and I can not find anyone to contact. I have emailed twice and tried calling the company, but the phone just goes to an answering machine and I never get any response. My credit...

Do I need to use stearic acid? Any substitutes?

Ok I tried making it with just ewax. I replaced the stearic acid with the same amount of ewax, taking my basic recipe to double the ewax. I made cucumber and chamomile lotion with sweet almond oil, calendula infused OO, chamomile infused safflower oil, walnut oil, avocado oil, Vit E oil, and...

I want to try a small batch with just ewax, but before I do that, can you tell me what ewax is made from.

Do I need to use stearic acid? Any substitutes?

Oh. of course. I have actually taken all the palm oil out of my soap recipes. So now I have to start thinking about what my stearic acid is made of. I am glad that at this point I am only making soap and lotion, for my family, friends, and coworkers. I am a nurse, so everyone at work has hands...
