    time to grow...

I've been doing a lot of reading of the older posts in this forum. I've read where people have made "master batches" of lye... equal parts of water and lye. Then you further reduce your lye to liquid ratio by adding more water when you are ready to use the lye and make soap. You can also make...

    too humid??

When I do a rebatch, or HP, when its done cooking and i"m ready to take it out of the crockpot, I will add my oil and whatever additives, then stick blend it to get it mixed in well. That usually will take care of the seepage.

    tired of mixing lye

You could add some other liquid to drop the % down... like aloe, or more water, or goats/coconut milk. But I don't understand how to figure exactly how much to add.

    Whatever happened to Soapmaker Man?

He was so active on here a few years ago and he seemed so nice. Anyone know what happened to him? I notice his etsy store is closed, now too.

    Help with HP, please

When I hp, I get white around the edges, too. I just toss that. I think it is soap that's gotten to hot. It's still usable, but unsightly. You mix your lye and water first, then blend until thin trace, then add to your crock pot. I cook mine over low heat. It is slower, but it doesn't...

    Goats Milk

I used canned in my first batch! I diluted it first, as per directions on can, then froze the amount of liquid that I needed for my recipe. Then I used it frozen... just add your lye and dissolve it very slowly, taking care to keep it as cool as possible. This will give your end result, a...

    Switchcraftmonkey's blog...

How do you navigate her blog? I can't seem to find anything if its not on the first page. Most blogs have stuff on the side, but hers doesn't

    Ever used moringa?

Even though they have the same properties, they will bring different qualities to the party. Just like coconut and babassu.... very similar in soap calc properties, yet my skin can tell the difference between a soap made with babassu and one without!

    About To Jump Into CP

Don't forget eye protection! I don't use anything metal except my stick blender. I melt my oils in the microwave and you can get any ole cheap plastic container to mix in... I use a tall 1 gallon plastic pitcher. Most people buy stuff at yard sales or goodwill. the only thing that needs to...

    Virgin Coconut Oil

brandnew, Most people suggest to not use coconut oil in amounts greater than 30%. many do a combination of 10/10/10 coconut, babassu, and palm, or coconut, palm and lard, or they do 15/15 coconut/ palm

    Natural Colorant Help

Lard also gives a terrific white bar of soap. I used tumeric in my soap and at first it was a lovely pumpkin color, but then it faded to a pale yellow. Still pretty, but not as nice as the pumpkin.

    Virgin Coconut Oil

sudbubblez, I thought I was the only one that brushed my teeth with it! I really love it for this use. I add a touch of baking soda to it for scrubby effect. gunner, I use it on my face, too. I use it for a make-up remover around my eyes, then use it on the rest of my face. I "rinse" with...

    Salt soap....again

Irish Lass, My theory is a bit different than yours. I think the salt softens the water. Have you ever bathed in a shower that had a water softener? They use salt to soften it and it makes the water very slippery. My mother in law has one and I hate it b/c it leaves me feeling like I...

Single best piece of advice for a newbies soaper?

As a new soap maker myself, I wish someone had told me how expensive this hobby is. The oils are expensive. The shipping is expensive. The molds are expensive. And that isn't even adding in the fun stuff like fragrance or color. Start with no more than 5 oils. You can make a terrific one...

I've seen all kinds of swirling techniques, but i can't find how to spoon swirl. Or am I over thinking it and its just where you take you spoon and manually place the colors where you want?
