    Question about cp method

If working with more than one color, I will mix my oils and lye until just emulsified, separate out the amount of mixture I want for each color, add the color and then bring the soap to trace. If making soap just one color, you can add your color to the oils before the lye if you want, since...

    I swear

Pomace olive oil and regular olive oil are completely different from one another, and they can't be substituted without tweaks to the recipe. I tried recently. It was disaster! I usually use regualr olive. When I used pomace I got soap on a stick, because it traces sooooooo much faster. I had...

Almost afraid to ask for help....

This forum is a great place to ask for help! The people here are really nice! Did you perhaps buy lactic acid (sodium lactate) to help create a harder bar of soap? That's what I use it for. If you add one teaspoon per one pound of soap into your lye water, it helps make your soaps harder.

    Battling air bubbles! Argh!

the trick to avoiding bubbles is to pour your oils into the soaping vessel over a spatula or something similar without pouring straight in. Do the same with the lye. Burp your blender and don't gel too fast. These things will make your bubbles history. :)

    New recipe very soft

I haven't run your recipe through a lye calculator, but a lot of your oils are very soft oils and will result in a soft soap. To make this soap work, I believe you would have to use a stronger lye solution. I make soap high in soft oils and I use a 50/50 solution. Your oils combined with your...

    POP! Mica Swirl

Today I decided to experiment a bit with swirls. I wanted something bright and cheery. For this I used POP! micas tangerine, lemon drop, blueberry, and grape with titanium dioxide for a white contrast. Here's another: I did this by alternating all the colors in the bowl in layers, like...

Micas and other colorants for CP

I don't think anyone really knows. There's only speculation. It's sad, though. They were truly awesome soap colorants!

What are these funny spots in my soap??

Weird indeed! I've never had it happen, but I've heard this can happen when stearic binds together in soap? Maybe it's stearic spots? Did you use a lot of palm? Maybe that with the shea was too much stearic?

Micas and other colorants for CP

Thank you! :) Activated charcoal is what I use for black, too. It's wonderful, stays deep and true black, and doesn't bleed onto a washcloth. I miss my POP's. I hope I can find a good replacements for all of the colors. The neon's are great, too. They just don't have the pizzazz and shine...

How do you recognize a light trace?

Look at it this way... At least yours was too soft and can be rebatched. :) Mine was a lost cause. I literally had to dig my stick blender out of it!
