Cutting CP soap with cookie cutter

No prob, Bambi! Like Krista said, please post pics when you're done. No one around here ever gets tired of looking at soap pictures:wink:

Cutting CP soap with cookie cutter

Yes, a cookie cutter makes a fine tool for cutting soap shapes. Unless you're making a salt soap recipe that hardens like a rock very quickly, you should have no problems cutting through the soap when you unmold it from the slab at the usual time when you would have otherwise cut it into bars...

    Browsing soap pics

I think you're right about the mica. This soap should be called Smoky Mountains Dreamin'....but maybe that's just because that's what I'm doing these days---dreaming of my annual camping getaway there.:shh:

SMF May Challenge- Interpretation, not Imitation

^^^Yes!^^^ I foolishly thought the hard part was done when I finished my soap. Not so - voting was excruciating! Newbie, thank you so much for everything - the thought that went in to choosing the pictures, the time you invested in the video tutorials, the help you freely give to the forum...

    44% lye solution won't dissolve

Yes, it was distilled water, no additives to the lye water. Thanks to you all for your thoughts on this. I was pretty sure that what I had must be harmless because the concentration was no where near saturation, but since I'd never seen it before, thought I'd better strain it out just to be...

    44% lye solution won't dissolve

Thanks Susie, but it wasn't floating. The bits were all throughout. In both batches, the solution was sitting on the counter cooling for some time before I got around to working with it, and had crusted over. It was that crust that never went back into solution as I stirred.

    44% lye solution won't dissolve

Today I attempted Auntie Clara's ghost swirl, and in mixing the low water portion I had trouble getting the caustic dissolved into the water for the 44% lye concentration. That portion of the batter in my recipe called for 144.51 g of water and 113.55 g of NaOH. No matter what I did, there...

    Great waterproof labels

P&P, do these labels easily peel off if you wanted to change them out with a different one?

    Drop method

I haven't tried it, so take the following suggestions with a grain of salt! I at first thought that navigator's idea would do it, but this would result in drops throughout the soap, not necessarily where the cuts would be. Your picture shows that the teardrops extend all the way down the...

SMF May Challenge- Interpretation, not Imitation

Oh jules, I think these are totally cool soaps, and I wish you could see what I see! Dang! I wish you had entered this, because it is a uniquely awesome interpretation of the beauty and violence of that picture.

BB Wire Soap Slicer feedback please

Thanks for posting this question earlene. I've been mulling over a cheap way to split loaves like this BB wire cutter does for awhile now. BB's cutter is way outside my definition of "cheap," but now I've got the starting point in design that I've needed in order to build my own.

    Coconut dream

I love the simplicity of those swirls--great job! What did you use for a black colorant? I've been wanting to try something like this, but am nervous about too much black colorant staining the lather and washcloth. I also have been wanting to try a version of Auntie Claire's "Ghost Swirl" and...

    Gradient salt bars

I use BB Salty Mariner for my salt soap also, and would use it in more soaps as well, if it didn't accelerate like a downhill semi tractor trailer! But you put it to fine use with this lovely gradient! Good on you, that is some kind of beautiful!

    May Challenge Entry Thread

Like Saponista, I found abstract interpretation very difficult! But thank you, newbie, for choosing such a great theme to challenge my limitations. I knew from the very first that I wanted to use the crane for my soap: that very real, very tangible PRESENCE emerging out of the murky...

SMF May Challenge- Interpretation, not Imitation

I'm having a heck of a time getting out of the concept-and-planning stage --- and into the just-do-it-already stage! I'm going to work with the crane picture, but every idea I have for the soap puts it way inside the "imitation" taboo. Anyways, I only get one try---I just don't have the time...

    Teardrop Soap - Tough Challenge!

I'm with Arimara: black totally sets this soap apart! Your persistence paid off with a very beautiful soap.

    Teardrop soap

Congratulations on your win in the teardrop challenge, Sonya! This soap caught my eye as soon as you posted it, and I do not mind declaring for all to know: it caught my vote as well. Everything about it spells "serenity" to me.

    Starting on # 9! A&F Fierce

THAT is some seriously beautiful soap! I adore those blues, and the splash of black is right on. I hope you can warm up to colorants quicker and easier than I have....I am still experimenting with them, and unfortunately it always seems that I have to make a switcheroo at the last minute while...
