    SMF March Challenge- Whipped Soap

I will just submit a very plain soap No 1, because batch No 2 just went nuts. Use quick tracing FOs, they said. It will be fun, they said :D. So I used Jasmine FO and the whole batch solidified on me (incl the portions in the piping bags - they all clogged). My whole house smells like jasmine, a...

    SMF March Challenge- Whipped Soap

I had to go for a business trip and only after 5 days I had a chance to unmold my first attempt. It went quite well, zap free, managed to cut it with wire cutter more or less neatly but... it has that tacky/waxy feeling to it, quite sticky. Is it normal? It floats and foams, but I am...

    SMF March Challenge- Whipped Soap

I made a practice batch yesterday to see if I was even technically able to take part in this challenge. It was quite a fun! I used a well-behaved fragrance because I did not want to make things even more difficult (although I have this beautiful but rude Jasmin FO I might try next time...). I...

Natural Fragrance ideas, help please :)

Davana EO is a very expensive, but beautiful smelling one - like prunes and wine and berries. Have not tried it in soap, though - I use it only in perfumes. It is available in fairly reasonable (still high) prices for example in geman store dragonspice.de or french proxisante.com. There is...

SMF February Challenge - Spin Swirl

It is lovely that you like my soaps! It was a lucky pour :) And I must confess I cannot cut soaps straight, I just have a mold with dividers! These are my two batches number 2 and 3 that I did not submit. No 2 - I wanted soft shades instead of colour blast from the batch No 1, but the lines...

    Need white soap recipe

I have found sugar can darken my soap slightly, but if I use sorbitol (5% of oils weight) it does not happen. There was a swap with additives where the results had shown excellent bubble boost with sorbitol :)

    Need white soap recipe

20% coconut, 5% castor, 15% almond oil and 60% lard is my whitest recipe to go! also, I can buy in Poland somethng like eco high oleic sunflower (it is imported) which is almost translucent in colour, that would also do as a sub for almond oil however I still find that a touch of titanium...

SMF February Challenge entry thread - Spin Swirl

Out of my three attempts, I chose the first one finally. This is a typical lard/olive oil/coconut/castor recipe, only with sodium lactate as an additive and with 5% superfat. Scented with lemongrass, lavender, a touch of lemon myrtle and patchouli EOs. Before I cut, the soap was nice on the...

SMF February Challenge - Spin Swirl

This is the exact recipe I use!!:) with 2% sodium lactate per oils weight, so I am not sure about the spoon measurements. I force gel in the oven and unmold 24h after pouring, cut 24h after that or sooner.

SMF February Challenge - Spin Swirl

My third attempt is in the oven, I really splashed the soap while spinning! The second one failed because I didnt handle pastel colours properly - I suppose at least one colour should be more dramatic or maybe the pattern/lines thicker. We will see how does the third batch come out. I use larg...

    Non-Fading Natural Colorants

I agree with clays, charcoal, annato and cocoa powder not fading. Madder root, indigo, carrot puree and alkanet fade a bit in my soap over time (like after a few months) , but not to an extent that they are not useful, still ok. Havent found a way to have more vivid natural greens though :/...

SMF February Challenge - Spin Swirl

I made first batch and on the outside it was "meh", nothing too interesting. It was the largest amount of soap I have ever dealt with (2kg of soap, to fill into the brambleberry 9 slots slab mold with dividers- btw kchaystack do you have the same one?). I was not happy with the results - because...

Most and Least Favorite Ingredient /Oil/Butter/Additive ?

Likes: lard, almond oil - because I get that wonderful feeling of soap kaolin clay - for "kaolin creme" silk - I really can tell the difference and like that luxurious feel brambleberry Black Tea FO - I just like it in each and every blend sugar, beer - for the bubbles in soap. In life...
