OK so my husband wants me to make him a soap with the Subaru emblem. And I bought the colors for it and everything but I'm.finding that mica works best in translucent soap. I saw a tutorial on soaping 101 and I think I can do it (just wish it didn't take so long) does anyone have any insight on...

    Using Clay in Soaps

I just bought the clay sampler pack from brambleberry. I've used up all my local resources for natural colorants. And I feel like a total noob for asking. But are there any benifits to using clays like as in health wise?

    Room Temp Soaping???

I do a lot of room temp soaping now. You just gotta be careful not to get a false trace and what not. First thing I do is mix the lye and water then I put it in an ice bath to cool and melt my hard oils the mix them with the soft. I like it. It got on my nerves checking the thermometer all the time.

    Lard

Some do some don't. My friends and family generally feel better about using a lard soap after I explain to them that most commercial soaps use animal fat.

Have I Calculated My Cost Correctly?

Yeah Mine is more like the example I showed you. I just have other tables that calculate colorants and everything else I put in my soaps. That way I can keep track of how much I'm spending and how much each bar/ batch is worth for when I put them up for sale this summer.

    Question: Thickening Liquid Soap

I used to make liquid soap from solid bars. I would (still do) grate up several bars and then boil 2 cups of water and put in 1 cup of soap powder (I use the small side of the grater) give it a stir or two remove it from the heat and let it set overnight. It thickens up pretty nicely After its...

Have I Calculated My Cost Correctly?

That's just regular excel I took a computers class in middle school thinking it would never help me in the real world. Boy was I wrong! They have tutorials on YouTube on how to add, divide, multiply etc. But its really easy once you get the hang of it.

    Zap Test

My first batch of soap was really lye heavy.... and I didn't measure everything out right so I grafted it all up and mixed it with baking soda and use it to clean my tub and bath. And put it in my laundry soap. By all means don't throw it out!!

    Soda Ash

For my gelled soaps I immediately wrap the top.in plastic, wrap the mold in towels and then stick it in the closet for 2 days. I've never gotten soda ash on my cp gelled soaps. Or my cpop. On my nongelled soaps however I always get it. But I don't mind soda ash.
