    Getting steric acid to melt

Right. I have made one soap with 5% and one with 10% stearic acid without problem, as the others have mentioned the key is heat. I messed up one 10% stearic acid soap because I was soaping to cold too. What I usually do is completely melting the stearic acid first then "dilute" it with my hard...

    Dual Lye Liquid Soap

You will be abel to cook and dilute it as usual, the problem is that after the dilution the NaOH soap might separate from the KOH soap, so you will end up with a lump of gel soap in your container of liquid soap. NaOH won't act as an thickener in liquid soap.

    Getting steric acid to melt

Sodium lactat and stearic acid isn't really interchangeable or remotely the same thing. And I'm not sure sodium lactat will solve your problems. What about reformulating and adding palm or butters to up the hardness?

Lye water seeping out of soap

I made a beeswax and honey themed soap a couple of weeks ago, everything went fine and it reached thick trace pretty much immediately as expected. But then something happened, lye water started seeping out of the batter. I mixed it a little more than gave up and put it in the mould and into...

    We have Humming birds again!!!

Last year I was outside in the evening repotting tomato plants and I noticed a couple of hummingbirds flying around, witch was weird since we don't usually have hummingbirds in this part of the world. Turns out it was a kind of moth that looks like hummingbirds!

Bubbly lather in non palm oil soap?

Do your soaps need to be vegetarian? If not, lard/ tallow is a good substitute for Palm. You could also experiment with different combinations of butters if the budget allows it.

    Soap sticking to the holder

It might be the soap "melting" from the water that is left on the soap after use, and then when it dries again it gets "glued" to the holder. That would be due to the high % of the very water soluble coconut oil.

100% coconut oil soap with stearic acid

So I got this idea the other day that, since I like the coconut soaps a lot but they tend to not last that long, I could add some stearic acid, maybe 10-20% or so to increase the longlively. I assume I could hot process it and then add the superfat in coconut oil at the end to try to avoid...

Foaming towards the end of curing

As long as it doesn't zap it's probably safe to use.

    Barbershop blend

I'm very new to scent blending myself and especially manly scents is a real mystery to me so I won't be of any help. But maybe you could tell us what brand you are trying to replicate?

    Usage rate for Guaiac wood

I'm not quite sure whether one could handle guaiac the same way as palo santo, even if they comes from the same plant, they aren't quite the same thing. Thought looking around some more Guaiac seems to be a very safe oil so maybe one could use it in however high amounts one likes without worry?

    Usage rate for Guaiac wood

Does anybody know the maximum usage rate for Guaiac wood essential oil in soap and leave on products? I received a bottle of it the other day and so far I love it. Though I can't find anything on google about what amounts to use it in.

    Adding activated bamboo charcoal

For what it's worth, I once made an AC soap using a more coarse bamboo AC. I didn't grind it up properly and the soap ended up scratchy. So don't do that. Also CPOP it will make the color darker and more even.

    High Shea butter soap

Thank you everybody for your help and input, I will keep those things in mind when making the new soap. I will also try the recipes you suggested. Though I wonder why a fair amount of people experience high shea soaps as drying since Shea doesn't have a high cleansing number on its own. Is...

    High Shea butter soap

Coconut oil 30% Olive oil 20% Rape seed oil 20% Shea butter 20% Palm 10% I just ran it throu soapee and it's not actually that bad of a bar, minus the drying effect. But it would be fun to make a soap with 30% or so of Shea, somebody mentioned a 50% Shea bar so I assume it's doable. I...
