where has Alchemy and Ashes gone to?

babassu oil addition Hi Hazel, I "think" I image captured the soap calc for you to see. I am out on a limb here, and if it works I will be happy. Anyway, here is my work in progress recipe. I haven't calculated the fragrance yet, and am still tinkering with it. thank so much for your...

where has Alchemy and Ashes gone to?

my soap tomorrow Hello again, I am working out my recipe for cider soap making tomorrow. I boiled my cider and it is sitting and hopefully becoming benign and well behaved. I am going to freeze it slushy, I think. I like to change one or two variables. This time I think my oils will be...

where has Alchemy and Ashes gone to?

Hello friends, I am just a few months new to the forum, but have been wondering where Alchemy and Ashes has gone? I really liked reading her posts and learned a lot from her. I am also hoping to hear about the results of her one oil experiments. I am getting ready to make another cp...

Anyone know anything about Cloth Diapers..a laundry soap ?

I haven't made laundry soap yet, but thought I'd second the reference to vinegar. I did cloth diapers for a long time. After rinsing them out, I would soak them in vinegar and h2o until I had a full load to wash. I used a mild baby laundry soap from our co-op. It was an effective combo. I...

    I am stumped...tangerine essential oils

Here is something that worked for me: My very first solo soap (way back in the first of January!) was scented with tangerine and lemon eucalyptus EO. I am using the test bar now. It smells great--very citrusy. I can smell it when it is both wet and dry. The scent seemed to go away during the...

    Illegal act?

clotheslines are great I use my clothesline year round (in Wisconsin). I have one outside and one in my front porch. I love it. I have some good memories of hanging cloth diapers to dry on the clothesline! Some suburbs/developments have rules that forbid clotheslines, chicken coops, sheds...

rose clay and alkanet color experiment in cp soap

Hi Everyone, This is my 8th batch. I experimented with oil infused alkanet (only about 4 oz- which had been infusing for a week) and rose clay added to that to get this color. I like it. Not sure if the alkanet will fade with the rose clay in there. It looks different than the other rose...

    GM/Woad

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I find it very helpful. I have chickens, too. You must have americauna or aruacanas.... they are super and nice temperaments. My favorite are the dark brown egg layers. I have two of those in my little city flock of five- a welsummer and a coucou maran...

    GM/Woad

Thank you. It smells fantastic. I love the EO combination. This is a good color... soap making is a good exercise in the unexpected. I want to try alkanet next. Thanks for the feed back. It is really helpful to hear encouraging words. kp

    GM/Woad

Here is the photo of the Goats milk soap with woad. Am I posting in the wrong place? Moved Is this what woad does? I like it, but it's not pale blue

    woad ratio -not enough?

I just unmolded the woad soap from yesterday. It did gel after all. Happened about 7 hours after making. I was so excited when it started. I think it is right that I let it cool down very slowly, keeping it covered until about midnight last night, then leaving the cover off, but the...

    woad ratio -not enough?

Hello Folks, I am on my sixth batch---here is my question: The soap we made this a.m. is a goats milk soap with palm, coconut, olive, macadamia and castor. We added lavender, chamomile and frankencense EO. We tried to color it with woad (first time with woad) following the ratio...

goatsmilk soap with rose clay-partial gel?

This rose clay and goatsmilk soap was hard enough to cut cleanly just now... This is fast compared to the soap I made yesterday, which I cut late this afternoon. That one was not a milk soap. I was surprised to find that it had fully gelled and looks fine. I was sure that it would be a...

goatsmilk soap with rose clay-partial gel?

It's pretty pink and I know it will still be soap. Other values worked well. But still, I am sad. I am wondering if it would have been smarter to let it gel completely by just sitting here on the table. I know people gel their milk soaps--done lots of reading. I felt that it was going to...

goatsmilk soap with rose clay-partial gel?

I just checked it again, it is much cooler, but looks somewhat transparent under the top 1/2 inch or so of soap and towards middle, not edges. Is that partial gel? will it be ugly? I am ignorant of gel situations.
