    Troubleshooting oozing moisture?

I've had this happen as well. Interestingly enough, it generally happens when I add the FO to the oils before the lye. Sometimes the ooze is FO, and sometimes it's glycerin. Also it tends to happen to me with FOs that accelerate or heat up regardless of when I add them. I don't claim to...

The liquid soap, the preservatives, and you

I know everyone is going to have a different opinion on the necessity of using a preservative in liquid soap; but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks. I've only made one batch of liquid soap so far, and I'm leaning toward adding a preservative to it; just to be on the safe side. I...

Intro: Fell down the Rabbit Hole and ended here

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Carolyn I did not like soap for my hair, but it is lovely for hands, face, or body. As she says handmade soap doesn't have to be harsh. You'll find a lot of great information, and recipe's for beginners here on the forum. Start out with small batches...

    Soap & Candle Making Projects

Rusti, I am absolutely LOVING your idea of fandom soaps! It's really a cool concept. Now I'm inspired to go do a "Dr. Who" soap. I've just got to figure out what to scent it with.

    Soap is soft

Your recipe looks fine to me. I'm agreeing with this being a temperature issue. I recently had the same issue with soaps coming out soft, like the consistency of modelling clay. The problem was the that the air conditioning was on and it was blowing in the area where the soap was "put to...

    GLS help please

Well, everything turned out great with the first batch of liquid soap. I diluted it. It came out a little thin, but it was a beautiful clear amber color. After it cooled to room temperature, it thickened up to the consistency of Dawn dishwashing liquid. It's came out perfectly as I...

    How low can you go?

I'll give that a try, seems like I'm always trying to slow down trace. Sorry, I mistyped/cut and pasted my post. I've corrected it now. Proves you should never try to post without previewing. Especially when the dogs are trying to get your attention away from the computer. :)

    How low can you go?

I agree with DeeAnna and TEG. The only "oil" other than the ones TEG and DeeAnna mentioned that is noticeable in bar soap at less than 5% is stearic acid. I know it's not really an oil, but 2%-3% stearic in a soap recipe is noticeable. Also I think most butters and castor oil are noticeable...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made my very first ever batch of liquid soap. After some fits and surprises, it came out a clear honey color and texture! :p I'm happy with it, but it does seem a touch harsh so I'm going to super fat it with 3% meadow foam seed oil once I get some polysorbate 80 and some meadow foam seed...

    GLS help please

Thanks everyone! It's good to know its not ruined. Since it didn't zap, I decided to go ahead and dilute it. As soon as the paste started to melt into the water it started to take on that amber translucent color. :) I just finished stick blending the last few bits of paste into...

    GLS help please

I am not sure if I ruined my first ever batch of liquid soap. I am using a variation of IrishLasses GLS method. Found here: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?p=428988 I never saw flying bubbles, or a beer head like appearance. All of a sudden the batter, which wasn't even really...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

Well, it wasn't today; but the last batch I made was going REALLY, REALLY WELL! A little info: My recipe traces fast due to the amount of hard oils in it. If I'm not careful it can go to thick pudding in just about 4-5 minutes. I make soap for my family, and everyone wants something...

    Scents you are looking for

I too love that fragrance. Save on Scents carries this: (http://www.saveonscents.com/product_info.php/products_id/203864) Their description: "True Rain Fragrance, Perfume & Body Oil : Earthy and fresh rain is beautifully portrayed in this fragrance. Petrichor in a bottle!" I haven't...

Thank You, DeeAnna! for your tutorial.

Recently, I have been having some issues with my soap coming out really soft even after sitting in the mold for 72 hours. The same soap was still the consistency of modelling clay a week after cutting. This was a recipe that I have used in the past with no issues so it was a bit of a head...

Soap Cutter-Homemade? Bought? What do you like

I have the miter box cutter (http://www.soap-making-resource.com/guided-soap-cutter.html) from Soap-Making-Resource, and I like it. I've only had it for about a month, but it's adjustable and I get straight bars from it. My batches yield about two pounds of soap so it works fine for me. I'm...

Fan Soap Adventures (aka Mental Note to Self)

You are definitely not alone in your soapy misadventures. Sometimes I think that the unexpected mishaps in soap making are most of the fun...LOL. BTW, your soap turned out very pretty. Happy accidents are always the best. :)

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I watched tutorials and read posts about hanger swirls and hanger swirl tools. I sacrificed the life of one innocent wire hanger (No! More! Wire! Hangers!) and a length of aquarium tubing and made myself a serviceable hanger swirl tool. I'm not particularly handy, and any...
