To keep lavender on top of soap purple...

Thank you so much cosmo thats a great tip, thanks for sharing :) There is much experimenting to be done now, I've been wanting to use rose petals, so going to try it out. Does it only work for the herbs when sprinkled on the top or do you think it would be effective if the flowers were sprayed...

Newest Soaps - First Ess. Oil batches!

They do look lovely! I'm planning on going all natural un-coloured, essential oils soaps too, so its very inspiring to see photos like these. Just out of interest, what did you use to colour the lavender bars?

    Room temperature method

I had never heard of this technique until just now, sounds interesting, lets us know how it turns out Miz Jenny. I'm curious though, are there any differences to the end product with using this method or does it produce a soap which is exactly the same as one done the traditional way. Maybe I'll...

    shelf life

I don't make M&P soaps but recently when clearing out a cupboard I found some old M&P soaps which I had originally bought as a loaf and sliced up and wrap in cellophane for gifts etc. These soaps must have been about 5 years old when I found them so I ended up just binning them but they were the...

    Whipped body butter

What is 'whipped' body butter exactly? I assume its a body butter that has been whipped ;) but I was wondering why? What are the benefits to doing this and in what instances would a 'whipped' body butter be better than an unwhipped?

Calculating the Ingredients in Finished Soap

I think from what I've read that it is pretty impossible to know 'exactly' what is in the final product as the saponification of the fats etc will be different (slightly) with each batch due to varying factors. As I've heard people say that you can't predict which fats the lye will use up in...

    Essential oils

Hi, 2 weeks ago I made a batch of candles using soy wax and 3% essential oils. I heated the wax to around 75 degrees C then added EOs at 65 - 70 degrees, stirred for a few minutes and poured at about 60 degrees. Anyway today I tested a tealight and a wax melt. However, whilst the wax melt...

    Individual soap moulds and gelling

I do happen to have a bag similar to that, so I might as well give it a go. Perhaps I should do 2 batches and try out both methods and see which one comes out the best :) Thanks for all your replies, great ideas :)

    Individual soap moulds and gelling

Thanks Hazel, thats really helpful. I've had the heating pad for years but never really use it, so its good to finally find something useful for it to do ;) I guess I'll just have to try it and see what happens and keep my fingers crossed that fully gelled or not, they still look great. :)

    Individual soap moulds and gelling

Ha ha, I'm a self employed massage therapist, so I have private premises that I work from. I'm just more likely to get stuff done there, away from the family ;) I thought that might be the case. I have a heat pad which is intended for putting on the back to warm achy muscles, is that the sort...

    Individual soap moulds and gelling

Hi, I'm relatively new to soap making, in fact I've only ever made 2 batches and that was years ago but I've decided to start up again and do it properly this time. So I am doing some research before I get started, so that I can get it right straight off and I've been reading a lot on this forum...
