    Coconut oil max

Is 30% CO too drying / cleansing? I'll be superfatting at 8% and I've put it through soapcalc and it appears to be within the ideal ranges for everything but with a cleansing value of 20, I was wondering it might be a bit too drying. What do you think? :)

    Soaping in UK

Sounds to me that your friend needs to sample more of your creations ;) You could try explaining to her, that by making your own, you can control what ingredients go into it, so you can tailor it to your preferences and that its also a lot of fun :) As for the UK being less receptive to...

In Search of Steam Distilled Citrus EO's

I have the Tisserand book and if I recall correctly, he does recommend steam distilled for photo sensitive people. I'm photosensitive, so I know how important it is to avoid a reaction. I'm struggling myself to find suppliers though and so far I've just found a distilled Lime from Fresholi but...

    Butter didn't melt

I did a batch of soap today, using the room temp / heat transfer method which I've done a few times before with no problems. However, this time when I added the lye water to the grated mango butter, it just didn't seem to want to melt. I stirred and stirred and used the stick blender and then it...

    Goats Milk Powder

I think as long as it is just goats milk powder with no additives, it should be fine :)

    Honey Color

Does it have to be runny honey or will powdered honey have the same effect, I have some powdered you see

    vanilla in glycerol

Ah ok, maybe I won't bother then, no point wasting it because I use it in other things. Thanks :)

    vanilla in glycerol

I have some vanilla extract in glycerol, can I use this for CP or will the glycerol effect it at all?

I would like to make milk baths..

I don't have tried and tested recipes to share I'm afraid because I'm still working on this myself (have been doing for the past few months) but what I can say is I'm very much enjoying the process, its means I get to test lots of lovely ingredients in my own baths :) Thats all I can advise I...

Advertising while using FO? Still natural?

I don't use FOs but because I will be using things like preservatives and other things that will make my products not 100% natural, I intend to word it such as natural EOs or natural plant extracts etc, so the natural claim is on specific ingredients rather than the product as a whole :)

Do bath & body gifts have to follow laws?

Also, if he did have a reaction with it, its a gift, so he probably would feel a bit mean taking any action over it, so I think the risks are pretty slim. I am assuming however that you are experienced in this product (do you already sell?) so you know what you are doing and it is unlikely to...

Do bath & body gifts have to follow laws?

Hmm, well in the UK we are told that we cannot even gift our cosmetic products to people unless we jump through the same hoops as someone selling them (safety testing / assessments, insurance etc) but as you are not making the product in the UK then I don't think the law applies. I could be...

    botanical infusions to color candles

Wow they look amazing :) I'm going to try some of those sometime. Have you tried burning them yet? Does it affect burn / melt pool / hot throw etc?

    Bath bomb

Great idea just doing a small streak of cocoa powder :) it gives cocoa impact without overloading, I'm not a fan of the murky brown water that a full cocoa bomb creates. How did it affect the water colour, did it make any difference, just a slight tinge? How was the ring around the tub, did the...

    Lavender flowers in bath salts

I don't have the exact recipe, its at work but as far as I can remember, dead sea salts, lavender and ylang ylang eo's, glycerine, bicarb of soda, corn starch and maybe some kind of oil (castor oil perhaps). Like I say, I feel like I over did it with the wet ingredients because it was clumpy, so...

    Lavender flowers in bath salts

So, I made some lavender bath salts about a month ago and used lavender flowers as well as EO. Now when I used it today, it smelled lovely but the lavender flowers didn't look very nice, they where brown giving the impression of rat poo floating on the top of my bath water! Now I know this...

    Anyone use hydrosols?

As a herbalist, I work a lot with hydrosols (and I also use them in room sprays) but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they don't work in soap, so it would be a waste of product (they are pretty expensive to buy). If however you have plenty to spare, why not give it a try. Make a soap with...

Safest Affordable Essential Oils with Good Strong Smells

It sounds like you are using plenty of EO, more so than I do in my room sprays, so quantity isn't the issue. Tangerine is notorious for not lasting very well, so do a search on this forum for anchors and you'll find some info about other EOs which can be used to strengthen the scent. The other...

    If Only......

Is that for real or a spoof? If it was for real, you can easily see why they had to bring in regulations about false advertising and the like. Wouldn't it be fabulous though, being able to just erase pouches of flab by rubbing a soap over it

    Tearless Soap

My 2 year old daughter got some of my 'gentle' soap in her eye and judging by the screams that followed it was painful. The same would apply to any soap I guess, if its true soap that is.
