    Bare Essential Supplies &Cost ?

Okay, first, the typical standard is cost times 4. Now this is how I figure my personal stuff out. Say I'm making a 5 pound batch and use olive and coconut oils. I bought 7 pounds of olive and it cost me 1.90 per pound and in addition a total of 5 dollars shipping. I figure out the cost...

Why did you become a Soap Maker/Artisan?

My kids have always had problems with "excema", supposedly. I also had skin problems, it's really humid here and my skin would crack and peel even in the summers. I got a bar of cold process soap from a place called Natural Acres in Pennsylvania and within 3 days the peeling of my skin...

    Almond Oil allergies

I'm not a Dr. or anything, but off the top of my head I can think of probably 5 people that I know who have nut allergies. I would venture to say it is one of the more common food type allergies.

    Ahhhhhhh.......this mommy wants to scream!!!

This may sound disturbed, but I showed my kids pictures of what lye could do to your body. They want no parts of it.

    palm oil substitute

Here's the FDA's definition of "organic" http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/docket ... e-vol1.pdf I found it rather informative along with their definition of natural.

    Hard and Conditioning

Yes, like Mike said, SA is great, but it will trace and trace quickly .. that was my first soap on a stick  If you're going to use SA, you have to work quickly (well that's been my experience anyway)

    Taxes! Yuck!

Your tax prep fees are tax deductible (for individuals anyway, not sure about businesses, but I would imagine the same holds true).

    Recipe Input Needed

The thing I worry about with a 10% lye discount is that it won't be conditioning enough?? I'm not sure about the milks yet, I'll def. be using aloe juice and might add a glop or two of yogurt depending on the input I get here. My goal with this bar is for it to be the ultimate beach soap since...

    Favourite Packaging Method?

I use cigar bands .. some people use wax paper with a cigar band over it .. some just use a sticker on the face of the soap .. it's really all dependent upon your personal preference and creative skills :)

    Recipe Input Needed

Hey everyone!! I've missed you all .. sorry I've been away .. it's been hectic .. applying to schools .. going to school, the kids, blah blah ... anyway. I wanted to bounce a recipe off of some of you more experienced soapers. I'm getting a little gutsy on this one, but not gutsy enough not...

    Goat Milk Soap question

An 11% lye discount is pretty high, especially if using GM on top of it .. I generally go with a 5-6% lye discount with my milk soaps .. anything above 9 is more prone to rancidity

    100 year old soap recipe.

How Do I Cover This? (with pix)

with a mold like that, I would worry about overheating if it's hot at your house .. that's nice thick wood .. so you should get a full gel without insulating as long as you use a lid
