    Out of coconut oil!

I love this forum. I'm making soap this weekend and I'm eyeing the oatmeal container as a possible mold. :D Thanks for the info, everyone, especially the historical piece on Palmolive soap.

    Out of coconut oil!

This is great information! I had thought about doing a castile with olive, but would like the cure to be a little shorter. Maybe I will do a batch of each. I do not know if Spectrum brand is palm kernel oil, I have tried googling and looking at the label. I think it is just palm oil...

    Out of coconut oil!

But I have Palm (Spectrum brand), Olive, Castor and Sweet Almond oils. Can I make a conditioning, lathering, hard bar with just these oils? Which percentages should I use? Thanks, everyone!

I got these silicone loaf molds at Goodwill for $2

They seem a little thinner than another mold I bought through a soap supply wholesaler. Do you think they'll hold their shape? They are regular bread loaf pan size. Thanks! [/img]

What is the best vanilla color stabilizer for CP?

Embrace the brown. :D It isn't an ugly brown, is it? I think that many times, the discoloration turns out pretty... maybe you can put some cocoa powder swirls in it!

    Interesting.

Today I made coffee scented soap and split the batch in half, poured one half into a plastic bar mold and the other half into a silicone loaf mold. The bar mold is already hardened (2 hours later) and the loaf mold is in gel, hot and still soft. I'm enjoying watching how the molds affect my...

    Do you make liquid soaps?

I'd like to, and I'll be taking a class on making a liquid soap in July. In the meantime, I've been reading some online instructions. I've noticed it takes a lot of time. So my question is: do you make liquid soaps, and if so, how long does it generally take from the time you start until you...

Can someone help with a recipe?

I love this. What would you substitute for almond oil? Would palm oil make a good substitute? I have that on hand.

    Rebatching ash

I can't speak for the answers here, but I learned a lot about soapmaking from about dot com before I found this forum (and this forum has been a Godsend, thank you everyone!). Here's a link about an explanation for ash: http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/coldp ... n-Soap.htm

    Rebatching ash

Hi all~ I have saved all of the ash I shaved off my first batches of soap because I thought that I read in this forum that some of you re-purpose ash into sugar or salt scrubs. Is that right? The ash is not pretty but it smells lovely and the soap it came from is a basic vegie oil...

Thank you! I have dry skin. What is fco?

    Cold cream question

Mineral oil is the main ingredient in the recipe but I was wondering if there is a better facial type oil to use. I would like it to rinse off easily. What is your experience?

    Rebatch before and after shots

ewenique, what sort of mold did you use to get the round soap? It looks so pretty. I want that mold!

This seems like such a lame question

Believe it or not, the butcher gave me what was left on the roll, almost half a roll! I'll be in soap heaven tomorrow. My first batch is fine, but the color isn't so pretty and I used a mold that the soap stuck to so I'm going to try this recipe again (without the cinnamon *grin*). Thanks...

This seems like such a lame question

Thanks everyone. Walmart is two cities and a bridge (+$5 toll) away. I'll have to wait a while because of the way gas prices are around here. I wonder if plastic wrap will suffice. Yup, it's to line a mold. I could just go in the grocery store and ask at the butcher counter if they could...

This seems like such a lame question

But I have looked everywhere, and I can't find freezer/butcher paper. will wax or parchment sub for a while?

    some of my favorite websites

This thread should be a sticky. Has anyone tried http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/ for fragrances/essentals ? They seem to have a lot of information on each fragrance they sell regarding flash points, discoloration possibility, etc. and the prices seem reasonable.
