Gentle soap for older, oily skin?

Hi everyone, Does anyone know what would be a good recipe for an older person with oily skin? Since my mothers surgery almost 6 years ago she can't shower that often, and she has oily skin. I'm looking the make a soap that is gentle, yet stripping enough to get all the built up oils off, but...

No More Fighting CO Out of the Jar!

I don't know what brand you are using, but I thought of the microwave trick with the Luanna brand from walmart.... darn jar almost caught fire! LOL!

Post you ugly soap pics here - Troubleshooting thread

I made Applejack Peel from BB, what a wreck! LOL. Everything was going smoothly (soaped at 110 degrees), left it for 15 seconds came back and the FO separated from the batter, then riced REALLY badly, got it beat smooth, then poured it off for the colors. Got the colors in, it riced AGAIN. Then...

    Goat's soap

My favorite soap is very high in CO actually. My fave is 45.45% CO, 27.27% PO, and 27.27% SB with a 12% superfat (using water as the liquid, I'd tweak it for GM). I found it to be very moisturizing, left my skin silky smooth and had a great lather in my hard well water. I totally agree with...

    Not impressed with Bulk Apothecary!

I so far have only ordered fragrances with them and they were shipped within 1-2 days of ordering it, and they arrived within 3-4 days. Some of the scents I got from them weren't really anything like the description while others were nice, or spot on. But so far I've had good experiences with them.

    Gelling Oatmeal Milk and Honey

No need to take offence. But it really does depend on the recipe and what's in it. Some recipes can handle more heat than others, some get hotter faster than others, the ambient temperature matters, etc. How hot is too hot for a soap can't be specifically answered, there is too many variables...

Well here's the melon one, it smells like juicy fruit! :) Should have used a little more white to add more swirl, but I'm happy with it, and no air pockets! :D

    Shampoo scent suggestions

I love fruity and citrus scents, like Energy from BB, and Summer Melon Spritzer from BB, my two all time faves! I also really like Celestial Waters from BB as well.

Thanks everyone :) they still smell pretty good, so I'm ok with them. I just finished making another batch with more water and it didn't get like mashed potatoes! :D I made a melon on and it smells great, poured really well so hopefully there is a nice swirl in there. I will probably wait a few...

Here's how the turned out. They were still really soft when I cut them, so the blue has some color streaks. The pink one has those little white specks from a few clumps of titanium dioxide that wouldn't disperse. Pics would help, LOL

Lol, I still haven't cut mine yet, I'm preparing myself for the ugly that could potentially be throughout it! :p My OCD just can't handle this, and this is my first kinda but not really "botched" batch! ROFL! :p I might run screaming, I already want to just seeing this! It has a lovely scent...

Thank you guys SO so much!!! I'm going to try it again tomorrow, using the 2nd one! I will report back with how it behaves :) I'm really disappointed in the other two, I couldn't beat it down enough, so there are ugly air pockets on the sides, ick! Oh well, the family is the only ones using it...

So far all my recipes are drying. Any advice?

I have a coffee scrub loaf of soap that is 45% CO with a 12% superfat and it was awesome for me, so I ditto that everyones skin is different. If you have dry skin, you need a high conditioning, low cleansing, higher superfat bar. I personally have oily skin, so 5% superfat, high CO is fine for...

That's what it is?! Oh my gosh, I had no idea LOL. This is I think the 9th batch of soap I've ever made, so forgive my lack of knowledge :) So what's the difference exactly, between the two? This is the recipe I made up today

Soap Calc, using the water as % of oils. I did this one at 8% superfat, it probably came out to 9% though, after getting all the color in there (color was mixed with oil)

I used palm, coconut, castor, avocado, and shea butter in this one. 29oz of oil total, and 8oz water. Last batch I did I used olive oil, sunflower oil and coconut oil with 29oz total oil, and 8oz water. (weight measurements). Should I try more water next time?

    Trace time questions

Is it because I soap with a water to lye ratio of 2:1 (28%) (dumb blonde moment LOL) With my high olive oil one I did last I used the water at 30% and it still got pretty thick pretty fast for being mostly liquid oils.

So I have both a blessing and a burden I guess. No matter what recipe I use, they get to a thick trace in less than 45 seconds. This time I was using a recipe with more hard oils and by the time I got it emulsified with a few pulses with the stick blender, then hand mixed in the colors and FO...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Here's an oatmeal milk & honey one I made at the beginning of the month, and a coffee scrub loaf. 1st two batches of soap I've made since the 90's, and even then I never even made more than 6 batches total :) I really love how the milk & honey one turned out :) Plan on making a melon one...
