    Coffee bar caffeine questions

I make a scrub soap with coffee (as the liquid) but I prefer poppy seeds to coffee grounds. I have not experimented with different grounds though, perhaps if it is finely ground coffee it could be nice and not too scratchy. Hopefully others will chime in on that.

Best simple EO combos for a "manly" scent?

I agree that amyris does not smell like sandalwood, it is nice and a good blender, just not the same thing at all. Carolyn, here is a blend that I use and like: 1 part ea: spearmint, lime, petitgrain, coriander, ½ parts ea lemongrass and basil. Well liked by the dudes and a lot females too.

    Coffee bar caffeine questions

I make coffee soap using frozen left over coffee. I dilute the NaOH in the frozen coffee. The stronger the coffee, the darker the soap will be. I use strong coffee on a patchouli soap and it is nice and dark. Never used anhydrous caffeine, but as far as label appeal, I find something like...

So, I walked into the Lush store in Milton Keynes, UK. . . .

Any approach to one of these stores feels like an olphactory attack to me, and not in a good way. I cannot go into one (a few seconds while holding my nose??), The thing that boggles my mind, is that people believe they are 'natural' with this type of smells? it makes you wonder about the...

    Comedogenic Ratings

Getting back to the discussion, do you think the difference lies in the unsaponifiable portion? Shea and cocoa butter are so similar in soap, at least soapcalc considers them so. However, they might have totally different waxes and/or other non saponifying lipids? Also, the salt is given a...

Tell me about Salt bars...why great?

I find it quite forgiving if not using accelerating EOs or FOs. I add my salt after trace sometimes. Sometimes right after emulsifying. They both work for me.

    Swirl tutorial??

Beautiful soap! Newbie the demonstration of the emulsification/light trace overlap was wonderfully explained and demonstrated. It made me realize I was an order of magnitude off in my soap batter (trace too thick) to do any of the fine wispy swirling.

It feels like xmas in August!

You might have to grind it finer, sometimes i do mine with a mini mortar/pestle. Do not be surprised if the mix turns a baby poo yellow as you add the lye. It will be blue in the loaf eventually, you will see some weird color transitions.

It feels like xmas in August!

Dissolve indigo completely in the water, add lye after indigo is dissolved. Good luck and happy birthday!

    Swirl tutorial??

Newbie thanks so much for the first video. Questions: what is in the cups? is it just micas/oxides dry? made into a paste with water or oil? Did you say 80% tallow? I use pomace and my soaps would be solid 1/3 trough your video. If I ever attempt to do anything like this I would...

    Partial gels... Boo

Try keeping both your lye solution and your oils at lower temperature before emulsifying them. Try a steeper water discount, if you have room for it. If you have a heating EO or FO (clove is notorious) then just embrace the gel!

    goat milk and salt soap

I make regular salt bars (not soleseife) with goat milk. I dissolve the lye in the frozen goat milk and add the salt at trace. No problem at all and the soaps are well liked and some find them milder than regular salt bars. They come out a creamy color rather than stark white like regular...

    Salt bar- post #10,000!

I make two types of salt bars, one at 50%, and the other at 25%. I use both Pacific sea salt, and himalayan salt. If I use coconut milk, I calculate how many extra grams of fat this adds, and reduce my SF% accordingly. My default SF% is 20%. I have used coffee, goat milk, aloe vera juice, and...

How to make my own perfume

I will try to find a picture for you...they are called solid scented lotion on the label, technically a balm or solid perfume. (Some people will get these for Christmas). I just happen to have a lot of these containers, little tins will work just fine too. These do make it easy to apply...

    Making your own body oils?

I make a couple of different blends for massage, using EOs and the carrier oils we like. Almond, grape seed oil are good. I make one with jojoba specifically for hair and beard. As far as essential oils, the sky is the limit! orange, tangerine and rosemary make a good blend. Other blends...

    botanicals in HP?

I also feel poppy seeds are rather large, even though they have a lot of fans amongst my soap users. I was going to look into teff and amaranth (whole grains, not flour). They both come in light and dark version.

What made you pick your avatar/ username?!

I am an old member, but never talked about my user name 'green soap'. It has two meanings. The first is that I got interested in making soap as I was looking into recycling/repurposing a few large vats of oil. I held them back from the biodiesel people for some experimenting. I learned...

    botanicals in HP?

Cocoa powder? can make very nice pencil lines. poppy seeds? good for scrub soaps. Technically charcoals are botanical too since most are made from bamboo.

How to make my own perfume

lionprincess, you could have easily missed the carrier oil part since no one really answered on the first page. I am suggesting 10% but YMMV. It also depends on which EOs we use, some are really strong. Spice, i wanted to warn you about the phototoxicity of lemon and bergamot. Not to alarm...

How to make my own perfume

Are you using the essential oils at about 10% dilution in carrier oil? This has been a good start for my perfumes, which are not perfume oils but solid perfumes (just in shea butter) If your total carrier oil + essential oils = 14g Than this would be about 12.6g (or 13g) carrier oil and...
