    Super-Premium Soap?

We hope it is but don't know for a fact. Logically thinking, if the soap cleanses skin grease, it should cleanse its own excess oils too. Absence of more powerful surfactants might be why handmade soaps don't strip more oils off the skin and leave it dry. But whatever it is, if you want to use...

    Shampoo bars and water quality?

There's a naturopathy expert from my hometown who does videos in my language. What he had to say about dandruff is that you don't need any fancy stuff to get rid of it, you just need to massage/ scrub your scalp very well when washing it. I make sure to cover my entire scalp with my fingertips...

    Super-Premium Soap?

Why not make a bar with low cleansing numbers and simple ingredients, you don't yet know which oils or EOs you want to use will actually suit your skin. And if you make a bar that didn't work you wouldn't know which one you should omit in a future batch. I would probably do a CP Bastille soap...

How strong is too strong? How fancy is too fancy?

The perfect bar of soap for me is one which looks like it's well made, simple or swirly and no high tops and things projecting out but most importantly it fits in my small hands, has a nice scent, lathers decently and doesn't dry me out. And I'm happy to say, with the exception of 2 batches, all...

A two pour landscape and what looks like china

Yeah, I knew I was not explaining it right. To me the sky looks like it was sculpted on the face of the soap, like a mural art. I did think of a pencil line after I posted my comment. I guess that line is what's tricking my eyes, it looks like a shadow, of that imagined sky sculpture. Your...

A two pour landscape and what looks like china

Why does the design look three dimensional to me? I don't know if I can explain what I'm seeing but the sky looks like it's jutting out and if I were to feel it, I could may be feel a ridge along the edge of it. I left the screen as is and looked at it from other side to see if the land would...

"Winter is coming"...question about whipped body butter

DeeAnna, I learnt to use corn starch/ IPM in WBBs to decrease greasiness and to help easy absorption into skin here, on this forum from Shari specifically. I use both at 1% each and my WBBs are so much better than without them. They spread and absorb way more easily, there's only a brief period...

    Salt Bar Recipe Check

The mobile app doesn't have a lot of options but you could go to the website soapcalc.net and click on the lye calculator. It has all the options and also the soapee.com that TEG mentioned is equally good. Try either one.

    Soaper's choice neem oil

I'm pretty sure that neem oil is good for so many things, human and non human. The neem tree is respected as ' protector of life' in India. Just having a tree in your yard is considered very healthful. Yes I've studied modern science but I know to respect the nature.

Adding at trace or to oils?

I have always added all my additives save for swirl colors and accelerating FOs into my oils and mixed thoroughly before adding the lye. It does make for a very smooth process and minimizes the risk of forgetting something at the last minute.

    Soaper's choice neem oil

    Then I'm doomed I guess, I used a whopping 25% :(.

    Soaper's choice neem oil

I hope this is true in my case also Carolyn. While sniffing the neem oil I didn't find it to be stinky, but soaping with it and cutting was a whole different story. It gave me headaches. I hope my mix of tea tree, eucalyptus and litsea covers up the stink a little after cure.

How to get my CP soap WHITE

I don't use tallow but my pure olive oil bar is the whitest white of all. The bigger bar is 85% OO, smaller, the super lye Castile. Aside from single oil soaps, if someone wants a very white bar from a balanced recipe, I think it's important to use TD but skip any milks and sugars/honey. Also...

    Castile Bungle

I wonder if steaming the whole loaf would make the outsides a bit softer to cut?

Anyone else in the habit of changing their plans partway through?

When it comes to soaping I do last minute changes to plans, more than I care to admit. And it's mostly the oils. When I feel like soaping I sit with the soap calc, with a rough idea in mind and play with the numbers a bit, finally decide on something, write it down. But during measuring my mind...

"Winter is coming"...question about whipped body butter

I think if you start whipping the melted oils while still hot, it's going to take a long time until they cool enough to start solidifying. May not be very good for your mixer. A period of cool down whether on the table or fridge is useful in my opinion. Once I saw Ariane's first video on WBB...

    Feedback on lotion recipe requested.

Good luck to you. This is my second attempt at lotions, and I'm finding that my facial skin doesn't like either the emulsifier or the preservative. While they are great for the rest of the skin, my face just about started to break out. Im thinking it's those because the anhydrous body butters...

"Winter is coming"...question about whipped body butter

Dixie, if it's just those two ingredients, You could mix mini batches of CB/ AO in 90/10, 80/20, 70/30 and 60/40 proportions and see which one you like better and tweak it from there. What's great for someone may not be as great for you and this is such a simple experiment.

    Feedback on lotion recipe requested.

Yes Chris, it's heavy in oils, but this one I intended to make so for winter skin. It's more like cream now, like an emulsified body butter, best suited for jars. Here is how it looks.

"Winter is coming"...question about whipped body butter

I know cocoa butter is awesome in a WBB. Haven't tried avocado oil yet, so no help there. But you got the right idea about the proportions. Just try your recipe and see how you like it. For the smallest quantity you can whip up, find the smallest whisk attachment and see if it fits in your...
