    any fragrance advice

just to stress the point that's already been made, you do need either EO or FO for a nice smelling soap. some of my EO soaps do retain their smell for a long time, so you just need to experiment and see what sticks.

Would like a recipe for a simple Castile-like soap that cures fast

^^Don't know if I understood you correctly but if despite what all you read you still believe that all NaOH soap needs minimum 4-6 weeks cure, that's great because that IS the truth. You cannot really hasten cure. welcome to the forum and the addiction :) you make it look so simple...

    Oil off the shelf

I was once told by the SC people that one should order 1,4 or 6 items (each container being 1 item) to take maximum benefit of their low shipping costs because, that's what their different shipping boxes hold. say, after the first item, the shipping cost is same whether its 2 or 4 items. I...

    Looking for advices

So much of what you do is not right, I wouldn't know where to start, but for starters your recipe is going to give a very drying soap. You really do need to read a lot about different oils, their properties and learn how to formulate a good recipe. Watch a bunch of beginner videos, read the...

    Food grade or cosmetic grade?

Hi Carolyn, I did actually mean to say that cosmetic grade may not be 100% single oil, poor word choice I guess. but good to know that they are blended to match a given oil. I never tried to buy cosmetic grade before and as such haven't looked at SC's SAP chart.

    Food grade or cosmetic grade?

Cosmetic grade may or may not be a pure oil and as such may throw off lye calculations for soaping. They are probably fine for other non-food purposes. Most of the time when vendors are selling stuff in the original packaging from the suppliers, they can be sold as same grade, but if they are...

What are your favourite oils to apply directly to your skin?

My body butter has sweet almond and coconut oils along with Shea butter and cocoa butter. That's the combination I liked most and sticking with it. Olive oil by itself is fine except in the very dry winter months. Lately I've been using hazelnut oil with a blend of essential oils on my face and...

    Looking for Math help pls!

your old mold is huge for a single loaf mold, if your stated measurements are in inches, it would take atleast 7.5lbs of oil, so I am guessing you only filled your mold to about 2 to 2 and a quarter inches with your 4.5lb oil per batch. is that what you are going to do with the new mold? then...

    e-wax - conditioning vs regular

I first learned that its easy to DIY lotion on SMF, found a free kindle book by Anne.L.Watson, read through the basic process and then jumped over to Susan's blog. I kinda created my own recipe, going by what my skin does best with. I still mostly use my body butter with added glycerin but at...

    e-wax - conditioning vs regular

IPM is isopropyl myristate. I first started using it in body butters but saw on Susan's blog that it could be used in lotions too.

    e-wax - conditioning vs regular

hi DD, I have only ever used the regular e-wax, and in the required 20% of oil phase, so generally in the 6-8% range. I don't get a waxy feel but a sticky feel from the glycerin I tend to use in my water phase. I also never use stearic acid, so I'm wondering if its the combination of the e-wax...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Cut the soap I made on Wednesday. The design didn't go exactly as planned but I'm happy with what I have. It's scented with mint and star anise EOs, colored with AC and TD. This is for DH. I'm also planning another batch for later today. Most of the soaps in my stash are over 1 year old and I'm...

    Fragrance Buddy's Coffee Bean FO?

If you are looking for a good coffee FO, AHRE's coffee house is a good one. My 15 month old bars made with really strong cold brew coffee and 0.5ozPPO of FO still have the coffee scent, I always take a sniff when I pass them, yummm!

New Soaping Room & Christmas Soaps

Hi Snappy, loved your new space AND your beautiful soaps. I might also get my own dedicated soaping area, in about six months when our new construction house would be ready. yay, finally we will own our first and hopefully the only home. haven't been soaping lately but totally planning for it...

    Lip balm process

Hi Ladies, I'm back after a long time. Today is also the day I made a batch of soap after nearly 8 months. I have been making body butter and lip balm occasionally, and been having some issues with lip balms. After melting the ingredients, if I add my favorite mint EO or any flavor oils...

Do purple carrots keep their color in soap?

I remember reading somewhere that all the novel colored veggies turn to their actual intended colors once cooked, like for example the purple carrots turn to orange and such. So most likely you are not going to see any purple in the finished soap. Wish coloring soaps natural was that easy!
