    Christmas 2015

Just cut my Snow Queen bars. TD did a number on them but the silver sparkle looks great and they smell delicious. I am on to you, Relle! This weekend, Enchanted Forest.

    It pays to be generous

I know that in my case, I have so many butt-ends and molded spillovers and bits and pieces and things that are awesome but for some reason didn't sell that I can afford (not, like, financially, but we're not in this to be millionaires) to throw samples into every single order, whether it's a big...

    My first avocado soap

So you considered the avocado as being a component of the lye water solution, not the fats? I'm still curious about avocado puree soap but haven't done it because I'm worried about the amount of fat in the drupe and its SAP value.

    It pays to be generous

I wanted to mention here how much throwing in a lagniappe has helped my business. I always toss in a sample soap or a lip balm or solid lotion as a thank-you to my buyers. Some are butt ends; some are perfect; some are tiny size. And most come to nothing. But out of the extras I've tossed in a...

    Fresh avocado soap

Ooh, thank you, Snappy Llama! I googled but the Soaping 101 video did not show up. Hugs!

    Fresh avocado soap

I want to make a very gentle baby soap with avocado pulp, not avocado oil, which I can't afford. Do I have to take into consideration the oil content and if so, how? Soapcalc does not offer a SAP value for avocado pulp but I don't want to risk an oil-heavy or DOS-prone soap. Any advice would be...

Mad Oils - I am in LOVE

Velvet Peppercorn will change your life! I haven't soaped with either of the others yet so it's not fair to be all "meh" when I've only smelled them OOB. But I just did a big gift basket for the Los Angeles Community Garden Council fundraiser and if I don't smell vanilla again until Christmas...

Mad Oils - I am in LOVE

Got my first Mad Oils order today. I love the Disco Pink and Yellow Raincoat shimmery micas. Not sure about the scents. Velvet Peppercorn is a big yes because I adore black pepper scent in soap. There is something about the way it cures that is just magic. The Vanilla Milk smells exactly like...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Finally, finally, FINALLY, got my Ballerina soaps right, after three tries! It's a pale, satin-slipper pink with white glitter, smells delicioso--I changed up the scent-- and did not get partial gel in the freezer (I wanted to keep the color very pastel) because I was patient enough to soap...

    bramble berry Crisp Cotton

It might be, TVivian. I love it OOB--it's very fresh and herbaceous to me. Haven't soaped with it yet, though. I used my two Spiced Amber Ale samples today along with a lot of Beau Brummel in a salt soap, and then I read someone on the BB site saying the SPA smells like a urinal cake and I can't...

    Lard, My New Best Friend

Nikko, I've found tallow harder and whiter. It hardens up very quickly and stays white-white unless your FO messes with. It's very reliable. And Morpheus, those are beautiful! How satisfying is a smooth, creamy, plain bar of soap!

    Lard, My New Best Friend

Heh. I found a lady selling soaps at the French Market yesterday, and her long, wordy brochure was full of bullpucky about how her soaps fight acne, excema, tighten skin, erase wrinkles, etc. I asked which fats she used and she just about passed out. She went on and on about "essential oils'...

    Lard, My New Best Friend

Sigh. Lard is like the funny but heavyset guy with dancefloor moves everyone ignores until they try. Coupla songs, coupla drinks, and whoa! I had no idea he could work such magic! Yes to lard. Glad you had such a good experience with it, Morpheus! Nice recipe, too.

    Stamping soap

Spray the stamp with isopropyl alcohol, use a rubber mallet if you have one (I use a regular small hammer), and the best time to stamp is 3-5 days after cutting, while it's still in the hard-cheese phase but not super dry and cured. You can also spray the stamp, then dip it in a mica for...

    80% Lard Soaps..OK, I Get it Now.

I say we pitch in and buy the medieval village and turn it into a crafting town. And have an annual festival called Cardstock. And btw, I am a writer as my main profession and knit as well, so I'll need the foofy writer's retreat segment as well as sheep, looms, and a dying shed. Let's get on...

Only one day, Lionprincess? Let's buy a cabin on the bayou and build a shed out back for soaping. Guaranteed cat-hair-free and unlimited local lard.

    80% Lard Soaps..OK, I Get it Now.

I have more cats than I care to mention, and occasionally there is a car hair in my oils. I usually get it out in time, but for all I know, I haven't gotten them all out. No one has complained so far, but it's a good thing I don't sell. P.S. Does anyone want to buy me a barn or other...

    80% Lard Soaps..OK, I Get it Now.

Darn you all to heck!!! My precious Angel Wings were green tea scented. Behold my DOS, Temptress of Darkness! I shall defeat your recipe, and I shall rule the soap world!! Um, sorry. Ahem, I mean, I shall make a nice lard-coconut oil soap.

    80% Lard Soaps..OK, I Get it Now.

I made the 80% lard/20% coconut oil and got a light case of DOS on my sparkly white Angel Wings soaps. But I superfatted at 8% for reasons I don't remember. So I was kind of asking for it. With all this ENABLING going on, Imma try it again this weekend. If it fails, I'm coming after Obsidian...

    bramble berry Crisp Cotton

No, but I'm going to place an order with them to get that sample. I literally buy the "Fresh Linen" FO at Michaels and mix it with lavender in my laundry soap and laundry butter. It's super cheap and a little goes a long way. But I wouldn't mind one that smells...not so cheap
