    Help needed

    Cut Sides and coconut No, you can't do that because once you can cut MP it is not "sticky" nor wet and there is nothing for the coconut to stick to. Again, coconut will turn brown and/or moldy and while it may look pretty for a little while, you certainly would not want to gift it or sell it...

    Coconut in mp Keep in mind that coconut is a food. Generally, most foods will eventually turn brown - or worst, moldy, in soap.

    using SFIC hemp oil base

    Hemp base For that last reply, I meant to add that I normally use a small crockpot on the very lowest heat setting. I've never used a double boiler.

    using SFIC hemp oil base

    Hemp Base The term trace does not apply in MP soap. I have not found that hemp soap base (nor any other MP base) sticks to the walls anymore than it would in a microwave. I keep a check on it as it is melting and when it is almost melted I stir to melt the rest and check the temp. I always...

    Manley scents

    Man Scents Tambra - thanks for your input - I will order that myself. The only man scent I have used is "Hawaiian Sandalwood" which I used in a beer rebatch. The guys at worked loved it.

    using SFIC hemp oil base

    Hemp Base I have never heard of melting soap base on low heat on a stove-top. Most recommendations are for either microwave (covered), crockpot (on very lowest setting and careful watching; covered), and double-boiler on stove-top. I have used the BB premium hemp base (which is most likely...

    Sticky soap

    There is a huge difference in the quality of MP bases. SFIC and BB appear to be favorites among MP soapers. You might try WSP (Wholesale Supplies Plus) - you get free shipping at $30.00. I like their Baby Buttermilk a lot - but it is a "softer" soap and their Cocoa Butter Base (which I like...

    Sticky soap

    What brand MP base? Oils are not needed in MP base.

    First batch

    First Batch - Additives You might want to try loofah - either sliced or shredded - it is natural and works very well in MP soap and will not turn brown. One caution when adding things to soap - botanticals, except calendula, will eventually turn brown in soap. So, while the soap may look...

    keeping glycerin clear?

    Keeping Glycerin Clear What is the brand name of the base you are using? That could be making all the difference.

    M & P has no lather

    Cheap Base Do you really want to use that cheap base on your own skin - or gift to anyone else to use on their skin? Most of the bases you find at the craft stores are made in China and there is no regulations whatsoever. Personally, I would just dump it. IMHO.

    Labeling your M&P soaps

    Labeling Labeling rules differ by country. The U.S. seems to have the most lenient rules. If I were going to sell my soap I would first purchase liability insurance and I would next purchase Marie Gale's book on labeling...

    Oatmeal M&P bars

    MP Lathering - Additives I find that even the premium soap bases to do lather as well as CP - however, I find them more moisturizing than many CP soap I have used. Please remember - the thing that makes most soap lather is detergent. The great benefit about making your soap at home is that...

    What can I use to make a exfoliating effect in wheatgerm soap

    Exfolliant You can add loofah to MP - either loofah slices or ground loofah. Personally, I prefer to use the slices because I do not think ground loofah is good for household plumbing. It works as a great exfolliator, especially for loofah foot soap.

    Help! M&P What am I doing Wrong!

    Not MP If the instructions told you to add glycerin to the soap base, it is NOT melt and pour. You don't need to add anything to melt and pour - it is ready to melt and mold. And, it is not difficult. I don't know what you have, but it is not MP. And I've never heard of adding glycerin to...

    Help! M&P What am I doing Wrong!

    Possibly Rebatch? Looking at your second picture, I'm wondering if you have rebatch vs melt and pour base. You work with them in totally different ways. If it is melt and pour, cut in 1/2" size cubes. I do not use the microwave - I use a small crockpot on its lowest setting and two pounds...

    Pieces separating

    Embeds I have found that using cocoa butter mp base (from Nature's Garden) has worked best for me for embeds. For the clear mp to pour over the embeds, I've had good luck with BB clear mp base and also Crafter's Choice Crystal Clear mp base. I, too, use 90% alcohol and I have found that...

    Looking for packaging ideas for melt and pour soaps

    Wrapping I use Costco's PROFESSIONAL plastic wrap. It comes in a huge roll that will last a long time - and it has a great blade serrator on it. Then I put my label on the back of the soap and tie with Wraphia ribbon (100 yd spools available on Amazon and tie off. I bought several different...

    Using pipettes

    Pipettes I sounts like your soap may be a little too hot if it is curling the tip. I had the same problem and found a glass pipette did not work. I now buy my plastic pipettes in bulk and if the end curls but I want to work with the soap very hot, I just toss and use another one if it curls...

    Is there a better base then SFIC bases?

    BB Goat's Milk Base Equestrian - thank you for providing feedback from your experience. I've tried several bases from different companies but always come back to the BB goat's milk. It is my co-workers favorite.
