    Bored Thread

I noticed at some point it started saying "Well-Known Member" underneath my lack of avatar. I've been here like a week. I guess I've rambled on in enough posts now that I'm "Well-Known". That is all.

    My first soaping disaster...

It finally finished, at 3 hours even into the cook. I finished at midnight. Here's what it looked like this morning, and well... It's brown. I'm not sure why it didn't lighten in color. It turned orange as soon as the goat milk hit it and just got darker from there, so that's probably it...

    Cold process liquid soap?

I've never had to use a step down transformer in my house since I have 120V service, but being an electrical engineer your post has keywords that perk my curiosity. Volts, transformer, etc. I wonder what one would use for a step-down in a household application. I don't know off the top of my...

CP vs CPOP Castile Slime Difference

Sorry if I'm threadjacking but what is CPOP? Edit: Cold Process Oven Process...Google is my friend.

    My first soaping disaster...

I've perused that thread on and off but haven't made it through the whole thing yet. It wasn't exact (he didn't use shea butter), but I basically tried to follow what songwind was doing since he had so much success. I never saw how much water he used in his though, so my first try I was really...

    Homemade Shampoo

True. I've been lazy about trimming mine, but since I'm attempting to make shaving soap I've got some motivation to keep it under control. I've noticed some flakiness on my nose after washing my face with my soap. Doesn't seem to be a problem in the beard area yet. I hope it doesn't become a...

    My first soaping disaster...

Maybe. I've used the powdered milk in all my CP soaps and the previous shave soap, and the CP soap has turned out fine and as much as went wrong with the shave soap none of it seemed to be related to the milk. It may be all in my head but I think I notice a difference, at least in the bath soap...

    Homemade Shampoo

So I bought a syndet bar on Amazon. Not homemade but no SLS and per the ingredients it looks like it has mostly the same stuff you folks are using. I washed what little hair I have with it last night. When I use soap on my head my hair gets kind of a waxiness to it, in what seems like almost a...

    Bored Thread

@Lin19687 soapy things or just regular things? I need to clean up my kitchen a bit, then I'll mess it up again making more soap. I'm going to reattempt my shave soap. It may totally fail again, I hate to waste ingredients but I have to remind myself of the entertainment value. I'd spend about...

I say that's about perfect timing. You finish your cup and, "well, time to go home!"

My willpower broke and I went to lunch with some coworkers. Picked up some coffee on the way back. But now I'm stuck at the office until 5:30. Over 3 hours to go. I'm never going to make it...

    Bored Thread

I'm on my second cup of coffee now. I'm almost out so I might need to go buy more during lunchtime. Trouble is I'd really like to skip lunch so I can bail out of work earlier. That soap isn't going to make itself.

Hello, I made a recipe mistake, can you help please?

Interesting. It looks like the fatty acids of that soap are pretty similar to a recipe I just put together for shaving soap (listed in another thread). If only you'd used some KOH. Maybe it would still be good for shaving. That will make a pretty damn hard bar though. I think with 50% coconut...

    My first soaping disaster...

Thinking about trying again. I came up with another recipe, I don't know if it's any simpler though, but it tries to incorporate some of my "lessons learned". 6.6 oz Coconut Oil (44.9%) 5.8 oz Lard (39.46%) 1.6 oz Stearic Acid (10.88%) 0.7 oz Shea Butter (4.76%) 0.7 oz Powdered Goat Milk 1.5 oz...

    My first soaping disaster...

Sounds perfect. Maybe, but I don't have any beef tallow on hand and I do have lard. The redness is fading already, I'll probably be fine in the morning. Thanks though!

    My first soaping disaster...

Don't think it's razor burn, the razor still glided pretty smoothly. This feels more chemical. I hope it's not still red when I go to work tomorrow... I don't think the saponified stearic was a problem as far as drying, YMMV. I'd love to use lard though and keep the recipe similar to my bar...

    My first soaping disaster...

Well, final update on this one: I just tried shaving with it, and it's already starting to liquefy again. Moreover, the added stearic acid is very irritating, my face is beet red after using it. I'm calling it. Time of death 7:36 PM. RIP. Post-mortem: I'm still baffled. It makes some sense...

    My first soaping disaster...

Not being one who gives up easily, I think I may have saved this soap (again). Time will tell. In my thread in the liquid soap forum where I was asking about cream soaps, I asked @DeeAnna "what is the purpose of the supercream?" She responded that unsaponified stearic acid is added to thicken...

    My first soaping disaster...

Well bad news everyone. I came home from work and my shaving soap has gone from "creamy mashed potatoes" to "thin pancake batter". It has totally liquefied in a matter of hours. I am dumbfounded. I don't even know where to begin in asking how this happened. Anyone?

    Homemade Shampoo

You folks with hair...life is so much simpler without it. Actually, I've been wondering about this myself. I have very short and thinning hair so it's very easy for me to just rub a bar of soap on my head. On one hand, if it damages my hair, I probably don't have enough for anyone to notice and...
