Tattoo Balm - feedback and/or sharing

My husband owns a tattoo shop. We don’t use any products for healing that contain fragrance oil. If it’s post healing, then that’s fine.

Facial Cleanser for mature sensitive skin?

Try LotionCrafter. They have 99% Bakuchiol priced at $47.25 for 30g.

How much ground oatmeal, how much colloidal oats, what lye concentration?

I grind oats to what essentially looks like a powder. I tend to add them at 1% of my oil weight. That has worked out really well for me. It’s plenty of scrubby action, and I haven’t noticed the need for additional water.

Are some soaps mislabeled "all natural" when they contain fragrance oils?

So, I'm not sure if you will find this helpful, but there are natural fragrance oils on the market. They will still be listed as "fragrance" in the ingredients, but the maker should know if the fragrance was made with all-natural ingredients or not.

    are fragrances just hideously expensive?

For US members, I find that most of the fragrances I have purchased from Candle Science stick well at a 3% usage rate. I don’t tend to use above that. The only company I did was Scent Memory, and I stopped because it was too costly. From Candle Science, the only one I couldn’t get to stick well...

    Insurance

I have an LLC, insurance, and a DBA. Certain states will assume that a DBA registered without an LLC means that you are a sole proprietorship. The LLC protects your personal assets from from financial issues with your business, whereas a sole proprietorship doesn’t. The cost (to me) of having an...

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

I’ve had this happen before, but it was a fragrance from The Flaming Candle. Mine was caused by ricing that I didn’t blend well enough.

It's a Dog eat Dog world out there!

That was quite the read. I did see another person on YouTube mention the bankruptcy. If I had known that, I would have stocked up on wax and whatnot.

Purple clay acting weird in soap

I, too, once fell victim to the beautiful color of manganese violet. It was on sale, and I thought “score!” Once I read more into it, I realized I’d only be able to use it for bath bombs, which I no longer make.

It's a Dog eat Dog world out there!

The worst part of candle testing is waiting two weeks to see if your candle is viable. Then, when you find out it’s not, you have to do it all over again and retest. I would make several testers at a time to try to save up on time, but that gets costly. You always end up trading one for the...

It's a Dog eat Dog world out there!

I, for one, am grateful that other businesses cared enough to step in. Are they going to make money off an unfortunate situation? Yes. Are they saving my candle business, though? Also yes. #9 wax from 16/17 was the only wax I could really get to work with tricky oils from places like SM. I had...

How do you choose your color palettes?

I wish I had the courage to use more colors like this. I tend to maybe use two colors aside from the natural soap color. I always worry it’s going to look terrible, but you make it look so effortless! ♥️

DIY B&B (Etsy) 40% off sale

I have both of her shampoo formulations. I used the hot pour for a long time, but it drove me up the wall trying to balance between keeping it fluid enough while testing the pH. I bought her other one, and I love it so much more.

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I also made foaming bath salts. They’re so much easier than bath bombs. I’m probably going to crush up the remaining ones I have for bath powders.

How much super fat, how do you decide?

I use 3%. I had a formulation that used 5%, and I can feel the difference. I prefer the 3%.

How do you label your soaps?

I’m have a master copy of each formulation in a binder that I’ve ever made for reference. I’ve included notes that I’ve handwritten to remind myself of details I could envision forgetting. When I use a formulation, I have a book that contains all weights of everything (including the company...

    Fragrance oil and curdling

If I know a fragrance oil rices or accelerates, I always add it to my warmed oils before adding my lye mixture. It has made a world of difference for me.

    Adding glycerin to CP

My husband is a tattoo artist, and so am I. He wouldn’t ever recommend bar soap for tattoo aftercare. I would so long as you are creating a lather and then applying it so the bar never comes into contact with the tattooed skin. The biggest concern is making sure it doesn’t end up an infection...

    Soap as cancer prevention

Wouldn’t it be easier to put the ingredients he’s claiming eliminate cancer in something that doesn’t wash off? I’m curious about how those survive the saponification process.

    Wax melts

I use TW30 from California Candle Supply. It takes two weeks to cure, but you can do a lot with the fragrance as it takes up to 18%. I normally do around 12%. The AC in my house is new, and the filter kills the fragrance molecules. It’s annoying, but the fragrance load also makes these last a...
