    Liquid Gold.....

Hello everybody... nothing like the sound of a rolling boil. And the smell of maple in the air. That time of year again. Back to lurking only. For awhile. Here's a couple of pic's... Some of the locals. Checking in....

    Chunky lye and milk solution

Hi, I usually soap @ 90f - 95f. Plus or minus. I have gotten away from liquid milk. And use powdered now. Adding it at emulsion. Just easier with larger batches. I don't buy ice for cookouts anymore. Just fill the 2 dozen trays I have. The night before.

    Chunky lye and milk solution

Hi, You can add the raw goats milk. To the oils. Blend in, then add 50/50 lye solution. I always strain my lye solution. Just seems like a good habit.

    So what happened

Hi, looks like your second pic over heated. (Dry crumbly lower edge) It has lots of soda ash also. Ash can accure after the cut as well. Notice sides of cut bars. I keep a light loose cover of some kind. Over everything while curing. Some Fragrances seem to ash more than others in my opinion...

    Plastic in my soap?

Was your container of salt lined. With a inner bag? Check it for tears? 60% is a lot of salt to hide in. Last to be added. I have also seen old Tupperware bowls delaminate like this. Just one of those odd ball situations?

You could combine it. With another butter. Until you use it up. 25% avo, 75% mango. Just a thought. Or make lotion with it. Don't give up, never surrender!

Can lye/milk soloution be mixed ahead of time?

I second @dmcgee5034 comments. mix mine while oils are cooling. One of the few times. My lye and oils are about same temp. I've also gotten some sediment from mixing. Avj to far in advance. Always use a strainer when I add my lye solution. No matter the fluid used.

Is there an easy way to remove the smell from used cooking oils?

I've used it @50%. With cherry almond FO and still got a bit of the smell. Just my results. Makes a good utility soap. Dont expect to much from it. If you have time to let it sit abit. Alot of gunk will settle out of it. Then filter the rest. Go high CO and add pumice. You would have a nice...

Trouble shooting and improving goat milk soap recipe

Hi, less water will help with ash and rivers. I use 1.7:1 in most of my recipes. Every time I use honey. My soaps are tan after gell. At little less CO might not be a bad thing either. I do not use beeswax, but 1%. Seems a bit low. Others can help with this. Also rounding to a whole...

Would you do it? Use more of a particular EO than is recommended? Any other recommendations?

Hi, not sure if it relates. The only time I have seen fo/eo sweats. Was when I used an fo at just max usage. Let alone adding more. Just seemed like to much oil.(Per the little voices.) I'm in the same arena as the others. On the safety issues.

    Sizes

Hi, You'll want to use "total batch weight ". For your calculations. (Oils+lye solution) Figure "volume" one bar. "3.5 x 2.5 x thickness x .40". Divide 32 with that. Go from there. Add extra to your mold height. Also, there are many mold makers online. Look at what there doing. Use there...

    Anchor or Pyrex?

Hi, a lot of threads on this subject. Have you thought about acrylic bowls? Some of them can be thick walled. Similar to Pyrex. Not thin walled like the $tore specials.

deep fryer oil for soap making

Hi, I have made CP soap. With used fry oil. Believe I read, that sap value. Does not change. Can't remember reasons. Something about how it's being used. But it worked well. I just thought of it as any other oil. The shelf life has been reduced. So it would be prone to DOS. I used it at 50% of...
