    Monday 1-27-14 FO SALE!!!!!!!!

Is it just me, or does WSP raise their prices and then discount them for this sale? In prep for this sale, I went through and wish listed a few of the FOs I wanted. I only had 4-5, and I was targeting relatively cheap FOs ($16-17/lb). When I went on today, some of them were $19, with the sale...

    Coffee Soap

Looks great! You may have gone a bit heavy on the spice EO's (skin irritation), but you'll just have to try it and see. Coffee soap is pretty awesome.

    WSP's fresh cut rose

So far so good after ~5 weeks.

    WSP's fresh cut rose

I've used NG's Fresh Cut Roses, and to me (I'm a guy though) it smells just like a rose with no other notes. Behaved perfectly for me, but I used it in a salt bar.

Does anyone sell sample soap packs?

Agreed...just wondering if I say put 5 mini-cube in a pack, how would I identify which cube is which? Almost need something like a chocolate box with a map of the different scents.

Does anyone sell sample soap packs?

Just curious if anyone out there offers sample packs of their soaps. My friend thought this would be a good way to get people to try a range of scents and then buy the ones they liked. I see a labeling and packaging nightmare :). Just curious if others offer this and how you handle it.

    Labeling Bar Soap

I started with this idea, and if your goal is to sell, you will find it to be too time consuming and expensive. You could perhaps use this as packaging if you're shipping the soap, but for displays I don't think you want to wrap it too much. Simple seems to be better in this case.

Formula for Pricing Different Sizes of One Product

I would think you need to calculate your cost for each of the sizes. As you said, packaging costs are likely the same for each, so there should be some savings between a 4 oz vs 8 oz. However, there is no hard and fast rule that you CAN'T charge based purely on quantity.

    Let's talk Coffee!!!

I do coffee soap where I do a 1:1 water to NaOH mixture and then add one more part of the actual concentrated coffee during mixing. I add a couple tablespoons of the used coffee grounds at trace and color the whole bad boy with cocoa powder. Also add a coffee fragrance and a tiny amount of...

How do you list your pigments?

I can't imagine making a 5-7 color rainbow with some of these TKB pigments!! I'll have a novel written on the back of my bars! :)

How do you list your pigments?

How is everyone that sells listing out the components of the pigments/colorants? Do you list each specific one (iron oxide, chromium oxide, solvent yellow 172, etc.), or do you just say "pigment"? Some of the ones I got from TKB have like 4-5 components to just one color, and that makes for a...

    Personal site vs. Etsy

I'm going with Etsy to start to save on costs. If things actually get going, I may move to Squarespace Merchant sites, but I think the cheapest plan is ~$30/mth.

Opinions Needed Please - Logo Design

Top one. Would prefer it without the green dot on the G. Bottom one is too busy IMO.

Is a Loaf Soap Cutter Worth it?

I got Bud's single wire cutter. Chose it for a few reasons. One...price, saved me like $50 or so. Second, the time savings between a single and multi-wire cutter is minimal in my case, as I'm not producing 10+ loaves at a time. Third, I can adjust the size of the bars with his single...

    Dragging marks from cutting soap

That's a good idea! As for the polish, many use old nylons and rubbing alcohol. The soap needs to be pretty hard or you will make things worse.

    Dragging marks from cutting soap

They should only be on the surface, so if you polish off that top layer once it is cured a bit, you may be able to improve the drag marks a bit.

    Wsp

Yeah their FO's are crazy expensive, 2x the cost of other places in may cases.

    Bulk salt for salt bars?

Yeah it was in the spices area. Paper 25 lb bag.

    Different swirl technique?

Just a thought off the top of my head, but I believe they make stainless steal skewers that are flat. May be tricky to find one long enough, but you could bend and use those. There are probably other options as well if you can cut your own from sheet.

    Laser printer for labels...right?

I plan on using an ink jet to start. Maybe if a great deal on a color laser falls into my lap I'll grab it.
