    Picking color palettes for soap

This YT video popped up in my feed. Starting at 8:16, she shares a few websites that can help you to generate a nice color palette for your soaps (or bathbombs, afghans, resin pours, whatever). Basically, you can select one or more colors that you like, and then ask it to share more that go...

    sorbitol and sodium citrate

I think it would be great! Honestly, castor is a bit of a wobbler for me. I notice a slight improvement in lather, but much less so now that I use sorbitol. Tell me what you think after you try it, please. :)

    Lard LS

Hmm, that's a fairly low lye concentration of 20%. Remember that a significant amount of liquid will evaporate during the HP cook, resulting in a harder paste. That doesn't happen with CP-LS. Ergo, if you use the same lye concentration for CP as you previously used for HP, you will end up with...

    KOH bar recipes and calculators

Am I understanding you correctly, that you intend to use KOH made from wood ash to make bar soap? If so, then hopefully you are aware that there is significantly more to the process and the recipe than simply combining the KOH with the oils. If not, articles like this one can be of some help.

    KOH bar recipes and calculators

KOH alone will not make a solid bar; it will be a sticky paste. If you manage to pour while at a stable emulsion that is still fluid enough to use cavity molds (good luck with that), you might get a bar shape. However, it will be very soft and will dissolve quite fast if used to wash hands, for...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Great job matching the colors to the FO names!

    Hello Soap!

Well, it is possible that the OP read a few of my long-winded posts and is calling me out... ;)

    Creating individual bars

Agreed, more water can help, but since we don't know what lye concentration you are using now, or the rest of your recipe and additives, we can't give you any solid recommendations. We also need to know: 1. How much you are stickblending? Often it is way too much. The batter only needs to be...

What is forming on top of my soap?

No worries, we all started out somewhere in our soaping journey. I had soaped for many years before I found this forum, and promptly learned that a few things I thought were facts were in fact myths - some of them even dangerous. But apparently like Mr. Magoo (or more accurately, Mrs. Magoo)...

    Lard LS

That's a solid recipe, and yes, that's exactly why I don't SF the paste. Just in case, I also store the paste in a zip-top bag in the fridge until I'm ready to dilute more of it. We go through it fairly quickly, so I don't add a preservative to the diluted soap. Living life on the edge, we are. ;)

Question: is this a good idea

Excellent! All's well that ends well.

    Lard LS

My high-lard LS recipe has the same ingredients as @DeeAnna's but with different ratios: 55% lard 25% castor oil (it's wonderful in LS!) 20% coconut oil 2% SF 1% fragrance (EO or FO). Usually I make the paste at 0% SF and add meadowfoam seed oil as SF during dilution (since my skin loves...

What is forming on top of my soap?

Agreed, the citric acid in the lime juice may have contributed, as well. That's great news! For future, we do have a recipe forum where you can post a recipe for comments before you try making it. Be ready for a range of different opinions :) but also read those answers carefully. They will...

Question: is this a good idea

Sorry, I realized I was confusing things between the two posts, so I edited my post, above. But you said this just above that: So it didn't sound like you mixed the entire lye solution with the castor-less batch of oils. I haven't finished my coffee so maybe it's me?

Question: is this a good idea

Glad to hear that it turned out! EDITED FOR CLARITY: But why did you withhold some lye water? Your original post said you were going to mix the whole thing, minus the castor, then divide into cups, and then add the castor. That is the simplest way. Dividing the lye solution would be a very...

    Lard LS

Sorry, I assumed you were talking about the Creamy Cocoa-Shea recipe, since that's the one with the pearly look. I haven't looked at the 3bees recipe for a long time but don't remember that it was advertised as being pearly (which is why it didn't come to mind as the recipe you were talking...

    Lard LS

You can make any LS recipe by the cold process method if you start with melted oils and hot KOH solution. Just mix to paste stage, cover, and let it saponify. However, dilution with stearic acid is going to require heat, including hot water. Otherwise, the stearic will solidify, and you will...

    Gold Bar Silicone Soap Mold

Oh, I thought he was looking for cavity molds with the bottom that already had the lettering in it. My bad. The other thing is that plain rectangle bars can be trimmed with a soap router so the edges match the profile that he is seeking. Wild Plantanica’s router probably has a router key that...

What is forming on top of my soap?

Yes, please do as @Zing asked. Meanwhile, what the pictures appear to show is that your loaf overheated and separated, creating lye tunnels. Those "teeth" looking things are one of the signs of that. Is there any liquid below those spots, or are those just empty holes? Until we know more, I'd...

    Advice with an Etsy problem?

Well, I cannot be the only person who sets the filter to pull up all the one- and two-star reviews to read, looking for common themes. ;)
