I never have had any luck with silicone, but I get a better outcome when I use sodium lactate. I have every mold known to man, and they have good and bad with each. My next mold I want to try is an acrylic mold. As far as wood, I love the ease and how it insulates. I don't mind using freezer...

If you end up cutting too early and its too soft (I am famous for this as I LOVE to cut soap and not very patient), it will cause drag marks. You can fix this by spraying 90-91% alcohol on the soap and rubbing the marks out.

I think it is a reaction to the baking soda. I too am a RN in school to be a nurse practitioner, but its hard to diagnosis when there are few details. You can get a reaction the more you are exposed, so even though they didn't have a problem before and suddenly now leads me to this conclusion...

I made dragons blood soap. I had a few bottles of samples and decided to give it a try. I hated this fragrance OOB but while it's in the mold it's surprisingly nice. Can't wait to cut in a couple days!

I don't think it changes the shelf life of soap. I have soap made with it and I still have some over a year old and its fine. :)

I don't keep soaping stuff in kitchen but I do organize all my stuff in a huge pantry/linen closet. I keep my soap and all products there. One advice is if you put your FO on shelves put stickers on the lids and label, and store on lower shelves, that way you can look down and see all your FO...

I think it is soda ash. Steam works, spritzing with alcohol, or washing the soap with some hot water.
