What is the difference between rebatcing and melt and pour?

Is it possible to make a CP soap with 0 superfatting and add the SF oils (5%?) when rebatching?

    Weight labeling

I live in the twin cities, and none of the soaps I see in health food stores, including Whole Foods, has weight listed on the label, so I assume it's not required in Minnesota. When I used to sell soap I listed it between a range (i.e.: 4.5-5 oz.). It's funny when you think that the xtra 1/2...

    Using Peach Puree in Soap

I've been soaping for over 20 years, my memory is not what it used to be and I've lost soap records during 3 moves. It's been a long time since I've added food to soap and I can't remember if I need to use some sort of antioxidant or preservative...?? Like GSE, ROE or something. I have a...

Good vessel to mix 8 cups of oil + lye water

I mix my lye water in a deep rubbermaid container using a long plastic spoon. This keeps the fumes more inside the container than outside of it.

Question for people that have made confetti soap....

I use all of my soap trimmings and log ends to grate into new batches. I color them by melting them down as in rebatching and adding small amounts of colorant, then grating them up again. Another thing I do with them is to cut or grate coarsely and put them in a dish by the sink to be used as...

Using PVC as a mold....having a few issues with it

I used to use PVC pipes and downspouts as molds. Haven't for a long time since I got my silicone ones. Here's the process I used: A thin layer of mineral oil or vaseline; after 48 hours put in the freezer for at least 2 hours (sometimes I'd forget about it and it would be in there way longer...

    Wood ash lye challenge

I still remember my mother-in-law on the farm back in the '60's making her laundry soap from lard and wood ash lye. I don't know how she estimated her sap values but I"m sure it wasn't a complicated formula (well I don't think it was....). I do remember orange spots on the soap, which I guess...

    Honey oat soap recipe

I haven't made honey oatmeal soap for quite a while, but I used to mix my oatmeal (colloidal), honey, FO and superfatting oil well and add them at trace. My soap (made with water, not milk) turned out a nice honey colored dark tan.

Soft and crumbly soap- trying to rebatch. I cut 24hrs after. it's like cheese. how do i rebatch this(what shouldi add)

I had a similar experience with a couple batches of soap. It turned out soft and curdly looking with little pockets of liquid. This was after about 48 hours in the molds. The first time I thought I had screwed up something with the weights, so I re-checked my digital scale and made another...

Tentative query about castor oil and soda ash - Becoz it can't be true!

OK-- I'm going to throw out another variable here from my own experience. I am wondering whether something about climate could be a factor. I've been soaping for over 20 years. For the first 5 years or so I lived in northern Minnesota and had problems with soda ash no matter what formula I...

    Supply stores in Minneapolis, MN?

Nice to meet another Twin Cities soaper, and good to have a positive report re: Sweetcakes' FO's. I am in Eden Prairie very close to Sweetcakes and will definitely be getting some FO's from them. They also have a few EO blends.

It Was Bound To Happen Eventually...need advice...

I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me, lol..... sometimes the FO, sometimes the superfatting oil, sometimes both! It always turns out to be a fine soap, though. Good thing you were able to mix before the soap started to harden. I signed on for 120 bars of beer soap (Guinness...

Our soap and the Corona Virus

I signed on for 120 guest size bars of beer soap for my nephew's wedding, which was going to be held at a brewery. That is, until it was postponed due to the virus. I have 2 5 pound logs of soap that almost seized from the FO I used. It is not cosmetically fit for the wedding anyway, but...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've been soaping for about 25 years. I used to sell but now only make it for myself, family, gifts, etc..... I kept records of everything-- recipes, how they turned out with each batch and what each batch cost-- vendors I used and their prices, etc. It was sort of fun and now I can go back...
