    Ginger EO

OK, so I have a small bottle of ginger essential oil from doTerra (SIL sells it, don't judge) and I'm looking for something less obscenely priced, but smells the same to use in a scent blend. I picked up a bottle of the NOW brand stuff and had a sniff but it didn't smell like ginger at all to me...

    Soap & Candle Making Projects

I've actually had the requested, but cannot figure out a blend myself. I don't watch Dr Who. A particular challenge!

    Soap & Candle Making Projects

I've been busy making fandom soaps and coming up with scent blend ideas. So far I've made The Chosen One (Vader), Strider (trying to come up with a less obvious/cleverer name for this one, Ranger King?) and one for the Cap. I think maybe I'll do Your Worshipfulness next. Soft fresh peach with...

    A labeling violation (US)

Drugs are *very* regulated. Even doTerra got smacked on the wrist for making drug-related/medical claims about their essential oil and oil blends. You don't get to do that without the the required research and collaboration with the FDA. There's a good reason it's so heavily regulated.

    Scents you are looking for

I would love to find a dupe of Basin's Wild Jasmine perfume ( https://basin.com/wild-jasmine-solid-perfume/ ). I've been ordering every promising description of jasmine I can find but they all seem to lack that one note that this one has. It's musky and green underneath the sweet jasmine smell...

Fan Soap Adventures (aka Mental Note to Self)

Pitchers! The swirl is mostly from me frantically poking a spoon down in it and rocking and twisting it around. I adjusted the blade on that failed soap cutter from Amazon so I could actually plane bars. The difference it makes is awesome. At least it wasn't a total fail and now I know. It's...

Fan Soap Adventures (aka Mental Note to Self)

LOL! No volcano, no cracking and no separation, but it was hard enough to cut once it cooled off, so I went ahead and cut it. It's not the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but it's not awful I don't guess. Looks like it tried to make glycerin rivers but didn't fully manage. I guess at least now...

Fan Soap Adventures (aka Mental Note to Self)

Yeah, I've done the blending plenty before and knew it could go a little sideways, but planned a 3 color ItP swirl anyhow, like a dork. I knew I was in trouble when I started dividing up the batter and noticed that my nice light trace had turned to pudding in under a minute. Cue the frantic...

Fan Soap Adventures (aka Mental Note to Self)

The planned blend of WSP Apple Pie and BB MacIntosh for the Cap ACCELERATE like a beach. Will need to rethink how to do this three color thing with it. Cripes. McIntosh is so well behaved on its own that I totally did not expect what just happened. I'm afraid to see what this cut is going to...

    Didn't Make the Grad-ient

It actually is pretty subtle once you move up from the bright yellow at the bottom of the bar.

    Didn't Make the Grad-ient

Does this one count? I made it thinking that if it turned out I'd enter it in the challenge, but it just wasn't to be. It does look kinda neat though!

    Soap cutters

I have a very similar one to that that I got off of Amazon. I mean, it did the job I guess but I couldn't cut a straight bar with it to save my life! I'm ready to admit that it could be that I'm just bad at soap cutting, but, y'know. I did better free-handing than using that thing.

    Soap cutters

I was given the one in the first link for Christmas and for the first time ever I was able to cut my bars straight. It's not a fancy little thing, for sure, but it gets the job done and I like it!

    First Castile

I had read all this information about how castiles sometimes take a couple days to be firm enough to unmold, so when I decided to join in on the 'new year's' thing I expected to be waiting a little bit even if it gelled. Nope. This would be my 'well, the bottle *said* it was olive oil'...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Cut my Strider fandom soap and made what I suppose is a castile. The bottles of oil claimed to be olive oil, LOL. I did scent it with limoncello fragrance though. Smells like lemons in the kitchen.

    Challenging fragrances?

At what point have you deliberately gone for a fragrance for your soap that has reviews warning you that it can be challenging to work with (accelerates, rices, may seize, etc) either in a fit of mad scientist insanity or as a simple challenge to see what skills you can develop? I have a...

    Strider soap

The more you know. My brother told me last night he'd ordered some handmade soap for men from some company and complained it smelled of Pine-Sol. I did have to ask him why on earth he was buying soap if he wanted handmade and not raiding the closet at the house. Knucklehead.
