    New to using lard

Most CP soap is firm enough to cut in a few hours to a day, but feels 'spongy' for at least a couple of weeks if not longer while it cures. I've never had a bar of soap that I thought felt 'hard' until after it was done curing.

    Essential Depot

I'm kind of unimpressed too, to be honest. I was also hoping for a lot better than what they have listed today. Most of it does in fact look like the price was raised just in time to drop it so it ends up being 20% instead of 50.

Essential oil MLM reps at your booth

Good lord, if you used doTerra oils in your soap and priced accordingly you'd never sell another bar of soap again!

    Anyone have a cricket machine?

I have in the house with me a professional grade vinyl printer/cutter - what sort of stickers are we talking about?

Added butters to oils BEFORE adding lye solution

You're fine. I always melt my hard oils and butters, if I'm using them, together and then add my liquid oils before adding my lye solution. You don't get to pick your superfat oil/butter when you're doing cold process, might as well combine them all at once.

    RIP Bamix... not all steel!

Don't use that for anything but your food. Stainless steel only, ever, in your lye-based things. You will still stand a very good chance of ruining your soap, again. DeeAnna knows her stuff. If she says don't use that brand ever, don't use that brand ever in your soap. Hit the store and find...

    Making soap with kids

I think she seals it up air tight and puts it in the fridge to prevent gel too. So when you get it back out, saponification is complete, but it hasn't gelled and since it's been sealed up, it's still pliable.

    Only nine tomato plants?

When you find some palm oil that needs used up

...and you've been using lard as your hard oil for over a year now and you forget how fast Palm will trace. Even paired with lard, because I just can't not use lard. Oh well. At least I didn't have any fancy swirls planned for this one.

Overall quality of fragrance oils from company to company

Yeah, I'm finding my RE scents don't hold up like BB or WSP (I need to give some of Nurture's a whirl). I used their 'Fresh Peach' just last weekend in a fan blend soap and the peach scent is GONE. Like, it was gone overnight, nonexistent when I cut the soap. I am hoping that it comes back out...

I poured my lye solution down the drain...

This is all so interesting. Where I live at the moment, with the 'rents, the 'gray water' from the washer, dishwasher and sink at one end of the house drains down back behind the house in the woods and doesn't go through the septic tank. The water the septic tank receives comes only from the...

How many molds do *you* have?

Did you make this one or buy it someplace?

How many molds do *you* have?

I have two. One of which is the silicone mold from Brambleberry and the other a slightly overlarge wooden mold my dad made me (that I must be seen to use from time to time, even though it's a shade too wide for my taste). I need to expand my mold inventory by one or two, I think. I made two...

So I received this certified letter in the mail yesterday...

Bwahaha! So the scary lawyer letter that would freak someone else out just made you do a Dwayne Johnson eyebrow, I take it.

So I received this certified letter in the mail yesterday...

The problem this comes down to is who's got enough money to fight this out in court. Yeah, the burden of proof is on Dr Squatch if it did go to trial, and I expect loss of business due to 'confusion' would be really hard to prove. They're counting on Wet to fold like paper and not actually...

    How many items to start?

I think there's some truth to this, to be honest. I don't think it's just you. I don't attend a whole lot of craft fairs, but I do visit cons once in a while and I am definitely drawn to the booths that have what appear to be decently stocked, well-presented tables. Things to look at or thumb...

    WSP Sparkling Limoncello

Somebody asked me, back in January when I made this soap, to let them know how this fragrance sticks. Well, I can still smell it when I sniff a bar. I haven't tried it in the shower yet to be able to tell you if it blossoms when it's wet, but it *is* still there. A little more faint than i...

    Abyssinian kittens, cucumbers

N'awww! Kittens! I haven't hung out with kittens or puppies since the outdoor cat (who gets to sleep in the garage if its raining or cold) was wee. It's one of the things I miss most about being a CVT. There was nothing like a grinning golden puppy or a little 2 pound kitten looking up at you...

    Queen of the Black Widows

A few. We've got widows and recluses here (and did you know that centipedes bite?) I tried to catch and relocate a widow once, but her web was so thick I wasn't going to be able to do that without risking her crawling onto me, so she got nuked with the bug spray. I've nearly plopped my hand...

    The Struggle Is Real

Are we talking about Mad Oils' Hyacinth? If so, that's not surprising to hear, but really disappointing. I got a sample of it with some micas and it has an amazing 'green' smell that a lot of florals don't have and it's one of my favorite things about wild flowers like honeysuckle or the hedges...
