Salycilate free or low salicylate help please!

I went to the store yesterday and got S-free soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and a few cosmetics (no wonder everything I put on my face before used to ITCH). I’m so sorry you and your family have had so much trouble and thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. My adult son actually...

Salycilate free or low salicylate help please!

I don’t have terrible skin reactions, I am sensitive but mine is mainly digestive and sometimes headaches, but I did notice when I used my face oil blend last week (olive, coconut, castor, Rosehip) that my lips tingled. I’ve switched to canola oil on my face when I need a little more than my...

Salycilate free or low salicylate help please!

Do you avoid salicylates as well? I do love the way lard feels and the BHT is probably such a small amount. I am probably not so sensitive that a tiny bit of salicylate will ruin my day. I’m still figuring it out. I think I’ll try a lard one and one without so that in six weeks I will have...

Salycilate free or low salicylate help please!

As usual you are so helpful and kind, Dawni! I did not even think to check for bloggers on the subject! Your link has some great information and leads me back to a question I have not figured out yet about guaifenesin vs. salicylate, which I don’t yet understand but surely is outside the scope...

Salycilate free or low salicylate help please!

Unfortunately the information I’m finding so far doesn’t spell out which oils are okay, except to list a few commonly used for cooking, which is why I asked here thinking people who make soap might have more information.

    Teaching Soaping

Maybe for your purposes it would be fun to make some lotion bars. They set up pretty quickly and they are satisfying to unmold and to use.

Salycilate free or low salicylate help please!

I’m testing a salicylate free diet, and so far it has been helpful for my symptoms. It’s early to say for sure, but I’m feeling that I may be on this diet for the foreseeable future. Can anyone point me toward information for a new soaper when it comes to making salicylate free soap? I need to...

    Sensitive Skin

My face is really sensitive to what I can only describe as windburn, especially in the winter. When I work out hard I have to rinse off just my face right away with plain water or the salt from my sweat burns my face. I also have oily skin and still get acne (at 40). I just started making soap...

How to deal with damp and sticky lye in lye pitcher

I had some trouble with lye granules sticking when the vapor caused the bits holding on due to static to stick, but it got a lot better once I started being more mindful of the vapor the lye solution produces. I dump maybe 1/2 at a time into the water, moving the lye container away from the...

    Soap Is Not Moisturizing?

So I have felt in my super noob opinion that generally a soap being moisturizing, or feeling moisturizing is overall is a product of several things: How stripping is the soap How much oil does it leave behind How much glycerine/humectant is present What type of oils are left behind The last...

Have Faith, New Soapers. There are Angels out there. I’ve seen one!

Represent! Love this overpriced, crappy drivers city.

Have Faith, New Soapers. There are Angels out there. I’ve seen one!

I love this post. She didn’t want the stuff and could have just tossed it or given it to goodwill or something but she took the time to get it into the hands of people who would appreciate it and use it. What a lovely human. I love that you are taking the time to make her a custom pen, too. Just...

    Little pits when slicing

Here you go, SaltedFig! The purple/yellow ones came out cleaner for some reason, while the green ones had a little more smudging. It may have been because of the clay I used in the green, I’m not sure. It’s still better than those bubbles. I added a photo of another soap I made a few weeks...

    Little pits when slicing

I scraped them with the flat slicer/scraper tool I have. For whatever reason, a knife was a bit too sharp for me and it distorted the design more. Just wanted to let anyone who has the same problem know that it worked really well. Thanks SaltedFig and PenelopeJane!

    Annetto turned green?

The struggle is real! Currently struggling with letting go of some bins in the garage. I hope your back feels better soon! I’ve found a foam roller helps a lot if you’re up for rolling around on the floor.

    Annetto turned green?

I will do this eventually, probably. I’m trying so hard to limit the money and space dedicated to my hobby. I’ve already got the living room full of stuff. It smells great but omg. I took this on as I was working on being a better minimalist so all the space I otherwise gained is now occupied by...

    Little pits when slicing

I was at about 120, I think. I think the white you’re seeing might be from the top surface (I didn’t spray with alcohol) or a part of the swirl. The pits look most concentrated in the parts with colorant added. These are a relatively simple OO and CO soap. I think I’ve underestimated the...

    Little pits when slicing

This is helpful info, thank you. Conveniently enough, my recipe was the same except for some additives, the green one got some goat milk and the purple one got some titanium dioxide. So it’s down to the temperature or whipping bubbles into it. It could be both. I especially think I was a little...

    Annetto turned green?

OO was your basic Walmart stuff. Not even a dark yellow as far as olive oils go. So strange! :smallshrug:But I guess I have to learn to just go with it when I use natural colorants. I bought some more mica to use when I’m determined to get a particular look.

Could use help on this one.

Really pretty batch! I agree, give it time. I made a coffee/cocoa/mint batch weeks ago, mint was the only fragrance added. It smelled awful when I sliced it. I almost threw it out. Now that it has been curing for a few weeks it smells great. :smallshrug:
