    Soap dots

Here are the rolls and sheets made with a planer. You could make smaller ones with a fruit peeler. http://nizzymoulds.com/Planer.htm

    Essential Depot Lye Sale Question

Lye doesn't expire, but it can be neutralized by carbon dioxide in the air. So if you have a container thats say nearly empty with a ton of open air space and it sits around for ages, the lye is going to have lost strength. Lye being clumpy from humidity is also a sign that it may have lost...

    Sled Dogs & Iditarod

And the real Balto, nothing like the movie! Do they wear the booties the entire time? I wondered if they only were wearing them through populated areas due to things like salt. Hey Carabou, do you know if its true that if you're caught out and freezing that you're supposed to get undressed...

    First Body Butter

lol. I have a really high pain tolerance to start with. And you get used to the pain and it hurts less. Also, if your legs are really hairy is when it hurts the most. The hair doesnt all grow back at the same speed, so if you keep up with it then it doesn't hurt as much each time you do it. Wait...

    Essential Depot Lye Sale Question

Eek, thank you for sharing. I'm about to place an order with them for lye. I was waiting for WSP to get lye in stock, and now its been removed from their website and when I emailed they said they have no clue when they'll carry it again but it won't be soon. So the next cheapest for me is ED...

    Softening soy wax with oils?

I read the post as she found a soy wax candle was good for her skin, so she bought soy wax, but rather than making a massage candle is wanting to use the wax to make a balm? If so, yes you can add oil to the wax to make it into a balm. Or lotion bar. You can look up recipes for beeswax balms or...

    Happy green body butter

Congrats! It looks yellow rather than green to me though, is that just the photo? Mine are usually a pale yellow from avocado oil since thats my favorite light oil.

    Pain relief/arthritis cream copy

Still have to determine one I'm not allergic to first lol. The worst is when I'm wearing event monitors. I get the 'hypoallergenic' lead pads but still have to change them daily (usually they last 3 days) so I can switch to new skin, and then apply steroid cream on the blisters left from...

    My first tiger stripe

Probably was fd&c dye then. Its definitely safe for soap, just morphs. I use the blue specifically to get purple in CP soap.

    Aluminum for melting MP?

Yes I use one of those melting pots for oils and butters, I prefer to use it as a double boiler and it works great for tempering large amounts of butter (depending on the size you get)

About to make my first soap!

You want to rebatch it now. The reason to wait would be to see if it wasn't zappy/Lye heavy after a few days to a week, but you know you forgot the Avocado oil and it will be Lye heavy. Water evaporates during cure, so it will be easier to melt and require less additional liquids to do it now.

Calculating final water and natural glycerine amounts

The original topic was how to determine glycerin and maximum water amounts ;) Threads can cover many different 'topics' by the end. I saw something I felt was interesting and so asked. This place would be pretty boring and much less informational if people were required to only discuss what...

Calculating final water and natural glycerine amounts

Whether or not something is considered a filler is definitely something that can be debated, for example the use of rosin in soap if its a filler (which in this case is also interesting due during original use it having been a cheaper ingredient, but now would raise the cost of the soap to use)...

    My first tiger stripe

Did you try using blue food coloring/FD&C dye? It morphs to purple in CP soap, and looks pink before it finishes morphing.

    Deanna, I have a question...

To me, this recipe with 100% coconut oil sounds like a really bad idea? Generally 100% coconut oil soaps need around 20% superfat because they're so cleansing. So why make one with a -40%? The only use I can think of would be laundry soap, in which case why not just make 0% SF coconut soap for...

    Deanna, I have a question...

I'm really interested in trying this but have no lye. I'm physically not going to be able to hand stir it though, so I'm thinking I'll try DeeAnna's second method with the 1:1 lye solution to trace and then stick blending in the rest of the water. I'm curious to make this recipe, a batch with...

    First Body Butter

Yea, quite possible you're getting irritation after shaving the way I do after epilation. At first I thought it was the baking soda, until one day I tried putting on pure coconut oil when I got out of the shower and had epilated before getting in. I can't remember why I did it... I think because...

Calculating final water and natural glycerine amounts

No... We're not. Deanna mentioned that some people may consider using food purees as an unnecessary filler. I asked if she personally considered it to be, considering fillers are generally used to drop the price of ingredients used but adding a food puree to a soap or using a food puree instead...
