    Holiday Soaps!

I did a peppermint soap with red and white swirls last year that turned out really good, and an eggnog with a cinnamon pencil line. I am not that great at piping, so I have been practicing because I want to do some really tall cupcakes this year decorated to look like a trimmed Christmas tree...

    Cold cream recipe?

Have you tried cleansing oils? I have used cleansing oils that emulsify for years instead of cold cream. To make a cleansing oil is actually pretty simple, any oil your skin likes with an emulsifier such as Poly 80 can be used. If you want it less runny/liquid, use an emulsifier such as...

    Bath bombs wont harden

I use the stainless steel molds, and remove them from the mold right away as I mold. Since I live in FL the humidity gets to everything, one way I can get them to dry fairly well is to get a container of Damp Rid, put that in my oven, and then put the tray of bombs in the oven and leave until I...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

I forgot to turn the crock pot to low, so it was a hot mess....literally! :headbanging: I was more upset about the wasted oils than anything else!

    No permanent damage! :-)

    Bath bomb colour ring

I use poly 80 in all bombs, truffles, etc to help the oils/colorants mix in with the bathwater. To color the bombs, lakes and dyes will color the bomb and the water without leaving a ring. I have only used micas on bombs to paint them and decorate them. Wholesale supplies plus has a bath bomb...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

I made a soap volcano today and it wasn't even close to salvageable

    Honey in Hot Process

I add honey to my hot process after the cook. I reserve 20% of the liquid and mix the honey in that. I warm it up some so it's very fluid and add to my soap once it has cooled to at least 170F to keep it from scorching and turning dark brown. I've never experienced any problems with the honey...

    SCI versus SLSA

I find that the SCI is a bit less expensive than the SLSa. In my bath bombs, I get desirable results (foamy, slows down the fizz a little so the bomb lasts a little bit longer) with SCI, so I use that instead of SLSa. Unfortunately for bubble bars and bubble frosting, the SCI just doesn't...

    Olive cleansing oil face wash

I have been using cleansing oils exclusively for quite a few years for washing my face at night to take everything off. Love them. I made one using grapeseed, castor, and safflower oils with poly 80 since that's what I had on hand. Turned out pretty good. A lot of the commercial cleansing...

    Substituting Surfactant

I have powdered SCI, I tried it in place of SLSa in bubble scoops. I get lots of bubbles initially then about 60 seconds later, they all disappear at the same time. A little disappointed honestly. Anyone else have that problem?

How do you name your recipe?

I usually name my soaps based on fragrance and looks, and sometimes what it contains. For instance, a soap I make that is scented with lavender and contains heavy cream I have named Lavender Cream. I have been a compounding technician for 15 years, so my record keeping is probably a bit...

    Paperboard tubes/jars

Has anyone tried the paperboard lip balm tubes and jars from SKS Bottle & Packaging? I love that they are eco friendly, just wondering how sturdy they are.

    Fellow Floridians!

hhmmm Thanks for the links guys! I had read that one topic already which got me to thinking how I could get a permit in FL. I will have to delve into this further but it appears as if I can get a permit if I do the manufacturing in the salon. We DO have a kitchenette, so it could...

    Fellow Floridians!

What did you guys have to do in order to sell soaps, sugar scrubs, lotion bars, etc in FL? Was it difficult to get the required permits? I'm an esthetician, and have a facial room inside of a salon. Sole prop, have a ficticious name, tax ID, already have all of that. Thinking of adding...

    Layering Hot Process Soaps

lol, no no x is not dirty in this case! Yeah, it hardens up so quickly that I'm thinking unless I run 2 batches at the same time it's not gonna work well. Maybe I'll try layering some M&P on top to see how that goes, at least that could be quick enough to hopefully have the layers stick!

    Layering Hot Process Soaps

Has anyone had success layering hot process soaps? If so, how long between layers did you wait? ( I don't have 2 crockpots to run batches simultaneously, and am worried by the time a 2nd batch is done it might be too late to layer) Or, anyone had success in layering M&P on top of hot...

    contact wearers

I've worn contacts for 18 years, soap will burn but that's about it. I use oil to remove my makeup, might leave a slimy film on the contact but a quick rinse can fix that. I accidentally used witch hazel to rinse my contacts (yes, I'm THAT blind, thought I grabbed my contact soln but grabbed...
