    Hot Process Fragrance

Here in Europe the maximum usage rate for FO is 2 to 3% but more often 2% I make HP and have never used above 3% and mostly use 2% without any problem and finished cured soaps smell nice and noticeable. There are of course some FOs which will fade no matter what you do so those you just have to...

Table Sugar to Increase Lather and Bubbles?

I am like IrishLass and add about 5% of sugar to oil weight which I think is around the one TBS per pound of oils more or less...ish. I also have tried more but it was detrimental to the soap quality and again as IrishLass said less didn't seem to do very much.

What made you pick your avatar/ username?!

Well as I mostly make HP soap I thought that what I am putting into a mould each time is a Gloopy Gloop ! of hot gelled soap mass....hence!

    Rose FO or EO?

Wendy90292 As far as I know Rose EO is a restricted EO in the UK and Europe and can only be used in minimal amounts. I know that you are in the US so doesn't actually apply but apart from the cost it is good to know because of its high geraniol content that it is classed as a big sensitiser...

A hand-washing soap that does not dry the hands too much

I have found that LS requires more CO oil than bar soap as LS does not lather too well IMHO. I also add a little NaoH to thicken and also to add a little more to the lathering which I think it does a little. Ben why not try IrishLass recipe which is posted on this site, here is the link. My...

    Sugar tips

Dont forget sugars heat things up which can cause problems in CP unless you are aware of that or control it.

    Sugar tips

Actually its early days using sorbitol for me so I need more time to play. I dont like too much CO as I have extremely dry skin so anything which will boost up my lather without using stripping oils is most welcome, I like the idea of thick lather but have not yet got that except using stearic...

    Sugar tips

I am using the powder and yes 5% in sorbitol is quite a lot, I followed on in the same way and percentage as I always have with my sugar percentage. I have not tried varying as I have always like the results but I may do that with sorbitol as I suspect it could indeed be lowered quite a bit to...

    Sugar tips

I use sucrose or sorbitol at 5% of my oil weight and add it to the lye water before lye to dissolve completely, then add in lye. It does make a difference and as said sugar can be in many forms, honey, milks, sorbitol, sucrose etc.

    Superfat percentage in different countries.

I am in the UK and have been making soap for about 20 years. I started out with SF at about 5% then increased to 8% & 10% which is when it gave me DOS. I also needed to up the CO to increase the lather. I soon changed of course and now my maximum is 5% and much more often 3%, I also found my...

    Confused about chemistry

Highly informative and interesting, dont tone down too much we need to learn and understand somewhat things which are not our subject, if even a little bit goes in its really worthwhile, thank you.

    Sodium lactate

I also use SL in almost every soap and ditto Irishlass. I think you will find the 3% mentioned just right, if you too much more you risk crumbly soap bars.

    Heat transfer and sodium lactate.

I have used SL powder form lots and I use it 3% total weight of oils. We in Europe have to be more accurate because of the regulations and safety certificate, spoons of this and that are not really acceptable. I found the powder just fine to use and I dissolved it in my water before adding lye.

    Sodium Lactate- Differences when added

I have always added it to my water along with sugar, no problems but then I HP.

    Contemplating soy wax

Ooooow you have got me all excited and can't wait now to get my hands on it. I really like Stearic in soap but A. its palm based and B. well we all know how its seizes up, and I am an HPer but its still tricksy, so hoping this may be better.

    Contemplating soy wax

Thats great thank you, I am ordering from Livemoor right now!

    Contemplating soy wax

Seasuds can I ask what sap no. you use for the Livemoor soy, feel I must get some in and give it a go as I was so disappointed in the Rapeseed wax I am hoping this will be good, your description of lather sounds very promising.

Powdered goat milk vs yogurt in hot process

I use only SL & sugar which does seem to give me a reasonable fluidity but would like to try the yoghurt powder just cos I have some but have never used it!
