SMF April 2018 Challenge - Sous Vide (HP) Soap swirling!

Ok, did another round of this. I'm using the 1oz FOs I've built up because this is PERFECT for making multiple 1lb batches at the same time without a billion scoops. Edit: Forgot to say, I'm using the crockpot for my hot water. I fill it halfway with tap water, room temp, turn it on high and...

Aroma beads, small amount ...sources without killer shipping?

Thank you for the information and offer! That's a reasonable shipping price, other places were charging $15-20 for one pound. I appreciate it and will give them my business :)

SMF April 2018 Challenge - Sous Vide (HP) Soap swirling!

DeeAnna-great! It worked better! So I'm not confused, you added your oils/butters to the bag, then added your lye water , then stickblended, then added your FO, then sealed it up and cooked it? Do I have that right? Or did you add FO before stickblending the whole thing? How long did yours...

Canola - Does it Cause DOS or Not?

Urmmmm that was a GREAT reply......... wow I need to start PM'ing people :). What's the confusion? For future reference of anyone reading this, if you are confused by what someone said, just ask them directly. If you are confused by a reply and they won't answer, best thing to do is to say...

Canola - Does it Cause DOS or Not?

No oil "causes" DOS-it's rancidity that "causes" DOS. The ONLY way you are going to find out , as czmaha has said, is to test it for yourself and your particular set of circumstances. DOS doesn't (unfortunatly) appear immediatly after making the soap, it takes time to develop. So, make some...

Sous Vide HP (SVHP) experimental thread

I use 30% lye concentration (finally settled on that), I do HP normally. The receipe works fine for CP too on the few occasionas I use if for that :). I guess I should clarify the "like water" part...it was more like greasy liquid vaseline? held it's shape coming out, settled in the mold like...

    Temperature & Tips!

+1 to what DeeAnna said, do smaller batches esp. since you are using quickmix and it's a lot easier ot measure than tiny amounts of individual oils. I'm going to add....stick with something simple until you get the hang of how the soap behaves...save the fancy swirling for later. First batch...

SMF April 2018 Challenge - Sous Vide (HP) Soap swirling!

I disagree LOL....this was way easier than messing with 6 different bowls or cleaning all that extra stuff when I want to do all different scents. My receipe was way more fluid than when I normally do HP...this might be receipe dependent too. Good luck with the packing! ugh I hate that!

Sous Vide HP (SVHP) experimental thread

Ok, I tried this. Quick warning: If you're using ziploc baggies, the "storage" ones are NOT the same as the "freezer" ones....had a few seam failures and one complete melt through using the storage ones! My idea was to do a bunch of small 1 lb batches so I can test out all the FOs 1 ozers I...

Sous Vide HP (SVHP) experimental thread

****************** Coconut heats up so much by itself you wouldn't need to boil it, mine fully gells in the molds by itself (2 lb molds). I wouldn't use it for any heated technique....one of the few I don't HP LOL...you're right about the flake idea, laundry soap anyone?

    Broken HP Soap

If it's just one bar, I wouldn't beat myself up trying to save it. Did you try dipping the halves in water, gently smooshing them back on top of each other, and then don't touch for at least a week? Wet soap sticks to other wet soap unless there's oil in the way usually....

    Soap cutters

When I used a mitre box, I actually liked the $5 one from home depot best. Because it was plastic, it was very easy to clean! You might have to widen the slots for the wavy cutter, I never tried using one with it.

Aroma beads, small amount ...sources without killer shipping?

I'd like to play with the aroma beads, but every source I've found makes up for cheap prices in shipping. Only looking for a pound or two-any suggestions?
