What soapy thing have you done today?

Cinnamon is a heater, it might've overheated...did the oil go down? No soapy stuff today...work day!

Determining amount of M&P for mold?

From my limited experience, it does seem to work out...but remember unless you are melting in the mold you're going to lose some on the utensils because if you're like me, you can't scrape enough! Hoping someone else can confirm or deny...

    Adding Lye to Hard Oils

You guys made me realize I've been heating the whole batch together in the micro to melt everything...when all I really need to melt is the solids. I was thinking heating the liquid up would help the solid melt, but that might be backwards...next batch..experiement!

First Farmers Market day of the summer

I used the bed/table risers also...except mine were dixie cup ones I found on clearance LOL. My tablecloths were long enough to cover them...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Working on new labels for a rebranding of my essential oil based soaps...now I have to actually stick them on the boxes.

Large jug of Liquid oils, how do you pour ?

I cheat....since the top is sealed, I just cut two triangles into the seal thing (cardboard/foil thing). One about a half inch, maybe three quarter triangle (two slices at an angle, third side is the side of the jug) and then the same thing smaller at the other end for an air hole so it pours...

    Breakfast Soap gone funky

How much of each have you added? That seems like a lot of spoilables in a batch unless it was very small amounts? I'm voting for overheating too, looks like a few of my batches that did that.

Do you offer a Cash Discount ?

Florida is the same, state tax is 6% but my county adds .5% to that

It looks like Havarti cheese! Bubbles/heat pits (?) on sides

Could always use a planer for the ends if it bothers you...or a potato peeler if you don't want to invest. If it's for personal use, that wears off after a few uses :). It's from silicon, I get it even doing HP but it doesn't bother me.

Will soap keep curing in retail boxes? Or is it a DOS invite?

I should include picture of the box :). This is the "box" I mean. I store them after cure in shoeboxes (the photo box type from the craft store) , but I'm figuring out if they'll be ok in the retail packaging during cure. DeeAnna that's a good point about being able to watch them...would be...

Will soap keep curing in retail boxes? Or is it a DOS invite?

I'm curious if anyone lets their soap finish curing in individual retail boxes (the cardboard ones with a cutout)? I just started using boxes and I like the idea of being able to just grab and go off the shelf instead of wait a month or six weeks then box and label and if I made a ton of batches...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Made two batches of soap (Sandalwood and an EO mix) and might make two more if I feel like washing crockpots....

I May Have an Opportunity to Sell

I've used square on cards that had a chip and didn't notice anything. Besides, you can always manually key in the number. If I remember right, its a slightly higher fee if you key it in but not a deal breaker.

    Does everyone eventually start selling?

DeeAnna, that's a great article you linked! I agree, the "business" side of it is what kills most hobbiest turned business owners...it's why I'm staying small for now and haven't expanded. Working 12 hour shifts (which I prefer over 8s actually!) on nights (sigh) I thought would give me more...

    2 Single Oil Soap Updates

I dragged out my 100% rice bran oil soap, I like it! It has a bit of "slip" but it's not "slimy", lathers about in the middle between coconut and olive single oil bars. I did these HP, not sure if CP would give the same results. That'll be my "vegan" bar now....

    Does everyone eventually start selling?

I actually had a friend who was a soaper who encouraged me to start making soap. At first it was just christmas presents, and then people wanted to buy more bars that I had given them, and then a friend opened up a small shop and asked if I wanted to put soap in it. Right now I just do that...

My LYE Accident - What was yours

I'm going out on a limb and admitting I use vinegar if I feel the lye tingle myself. I tried only hitting the hose/faucet, but I end up with red marks which says to me it didn't work fast enough-so now I douse/wipe with vinegar and then run to the hose/faucet. Now, if I had a puddle of lye or a...
