Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

Hey, that’s awesome! Go for it. My point was sincere, if inarticulate. I get fragrance issues, but color? All color? Natural color from plants? Clays? Oxides? That’s like saying, “I’m allergic to blue.” I’m not trying to be unkind, but I don’t see how anyone with that much sensitivity to...

Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

As for colors, there are so many options: botanicals, micas, oxides. Anybody allergic to all of them probably needs to be living in a plastic bubble. They’d be just as likely to be allergic to one of the base oils or the packaging material.

Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

I guess my question would be, “Why lock yourself in to anything ‘exclusively?’” I’m sure there is a market, albeit narrow, for color/fragrance-free, but unless you or someone in your house is allergic or overly sensitive to the fragrance (can’t imagine what the issue with color might be), then...

    Cacao Butter

My standard, go-to recipe, is coconut, palm, olive, lard, castor and safflower. I was considering it 5% super fat.

    Cacao Butter

It’s almost $1/oz. Janice bought it to make keto fat bombs but decided against making them. So I that makes it free since it’s sitting in our pantry.

    Cacao Butter

Cacao is sort of cocoa's un-roasted daddy as best I understand it. It does have a faint chocolaty aroma, so I'm not sure how that will translate into soap. Might not survive the lye or might smell great with orange. Oh great. Now I'm hungry.

SMF May 2019 Challenge - Tiger Stripes

Thanks. I just realized how the process works and was coming back to fix it. You beat me to it. Now, somebody tell me, how do you make soap?

    I made a mistake...

You should be able to get a good idea from how full you mold is.

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

Thanks very much, and yes, it reminds me of an old fashioned Coke bottle or depression glass. I wish we had “smell-a-vision.”

What soapy thing have you done today?

I unmolded my “tiger stripe” tonight...and yes, I’m with Marilyn...I’m dying to post it—not because it’s particularly “tigery” but because it’s really nice looking soap. That is to say, it wouldn’t win any accolades in the competition but I’m not sure I’ll get around to making anything better...

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

Soap is transparent up to 1/8” but as stated earlier, I think it’s the mica that made it cloudy. The lather is incredible for day 2...more creamy than bubbly. Rinses clean and not drying at ALL! (Note: I’m not as fat as my hand looks...the camera adds 10 lbs!) I understand why people like...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Marilyn, this is an intervention. Put down the mouse and step away from the computer.... I had (purely by accident) made a butterfly swirl that looked exactly like an owl. It was a shoe-in. I was SO proud and posted the pic like, “later losers.” Then some guy posted back and broke the news...

What soapy thing have you done today?

My second batch yesterday was at attempt at tiger stripes—it took back-seat to the drama of translucency, so I didn’t mention it. The batter was PERFECT for what I wanted to accomplish, but I was going for “tiger,” not “zebra,” which is the mistake a lot of people make IMHO. So, I’ll have no...

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

Thanks. You are very kind. I am very pleased with the hue. The fragrance is spearmint and rosemary, and I believe it’s reflective of those. Note for those who may want to try this: One of the challenges with this type of soap is counteracting the yellow cast of many oils. That’s why I...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I wear one contact on my dominant eye to correct for distance and leave the other naked for reading. Been doing it for years, and it works great except in low light situations like church, movies or theatre. Not sure if that would be an option for you.

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

The slices I posted were 1” thick. I believe the cloudiness is coming from using mica which I dispersed in glycerine as the colorant, I didn’t have any liquid color. Thought about using food coloring but feared it might be skin staining. I added a bit of sodium lactate as well, but I don’t...

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

I use fishing wire in my cutter, so it’s no big deal. I did read somewhere that you can melt and remold it a couple of times before it gets too cloudy, but this is pretty cloudy from the get-go unless it clears up as it continues to cure. At this point I’d call it opaque but certainly not...
