    Oatmeal

I don't use hot water so it's not gummy. The morning before I plan to make soap, I put rolled oats in a mason jar and fill it up with room temperature water (about 1 oz per pound of water). I leave it on the counter for a few hours before moving it to the fridge. When I think about it, I'll...

    Oatmeal

I don't use ground oatmeal in bars as I don't care for bars with "bumpy stuff" in them, but I do like to soak oats in water overnight and then carefully decant the "clear-ish" water to dissolve KOH for liquid soap. It adds to the lather (at least that formula lathers better than my LS without...

    Bulk Soap Prices

My very honest opinion-- If you haven't already, sit how with a pencil and paper and write down everything you discussed that could be considered a verbal contract. And then--stick to it! My DH (who acts as my sales rep) gave me some very good advice shortly after I picked up my first...

    Replacing palm oil for recipe

If you're against animal fats and want something that's less expensive than shea and cocoa butter, take a look at Soy Wax. If you blend it with olive oil and a little coconut, you can achieve a fatty acid profile that is similar to palm (or at least "close enough for government work"): Olive...

    Spray sealing labels

It was after reading some older post you had made about their vinyl labels that prompted me to do A LOT of research before putting them through my machine--thank you for that! As a result, I found that my machine technically doesn't get hot enough for vinyl labels (no matter what setting one...

Soap turns white in colder temps.

:headbanging: I can't believe I'm going to admit this. . . . When I first started making LS (well over 10 years ago!) I was still diluting my paste by putting it in a pan of water and gently heating and stirring it on the (electric) range in my kitchen. I've since switched to a very lazy...

    Spray sealing labels

If your labels are square/rectangle, you could try the vinyl labels and cut them with a rotary cutter (like quilters use). My labels look like a square with an arched top (I have no idea what that's called!) which is why the Silhouette works so well for cutting. Like I said, there is a huge...

ISO: Plastic Body Wash Bottles (Bulk)

Again, I thank you all for the suggestions! To clarify, my hope was to find something like the bottle in the link from my first post . I'm not sure what they are called, but it's some kind of tottle. Unfortunately, I've only been able to find them in 50 ml capacities. I think I'm going to...

    Am I crazy?

Most of the fragrance oils I use accelerate, which means that by the time I've poured, things are setting up real good. Those batches are CPOPed and I have NO issues with ash. But one of my blends thins out my batter and it takes a good 30 minutes for it to set up enough in the mold to be...

ISO: Plastic Body Wash Bottles (Bulk)

Thank you all for your replies. I'm still on the hunt and might have to consider some other options. There are a lot of containers out there that I think would look great, but I can't find anything in a 12-18 fl oz size. I guess the search continues!

    Spray sealing labels

I've used both the inkjet and the laserjet weatherproof labels from onlinelabels and had the same troubles. The are easy to scratch and mine ultimately would start flaking. I've since switched to their weatherproof vinyl and LOVE them; no sealing necessary! They are for laser printers only...

ISO: Plastic Body Wash Bottles (Bulk)

You'd think so, but at this point, I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I like pumps, and in fact, I started packaging shampoo and conditioner in them, but the masses resisted. I prefer bars, too, but I've had a lot of request for a body wash. My branding is masculine and I've had a lot of...

ISO: Plastic Body Wash Bottles (Bulk)

I'm looking for a bulk supplier of body wash bottles. I'd like something that hold 12-18 fl oz and looks like this bottle. I've checked with SKS and SpecialtyBottle; no luck. I sell, so it's important to me that the bottle is recognizable as body wash; I'd rather not have a pump or anything...

The old superfat after trace CP argument

http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=42021, post #5, specifically-- Unless I'm completely misreading this, even a SF added after saponification in an HP soap is "fair game" to the NaOH. EDITED: IL beat me to it!

The old superfat after trace CP argument

I think what SudsanSoaps is referring to is that the chemical reactions are not static. In other words, if you HP a 100% lard bar, then after saponification is complete, SF with shea butter, you won't end up with just shea butter as your SF. Over the course of time, you still end up with lard...

Recipe for a *really* hard bar?

Morpheus' recipe looks good. In fact, it's exactly what my first SW recipe looked like. I now use soy wax in all of my bars but at closer to 40%. It makes great soap that is rock hard in 6-8 weeks.

    Bergamot & Patchouli

Thank you! As do New Directions and Camden-Grey (I've purchased from both).

    Bergamot & Patchouli

IME, bergamot EO doesn't stick in CP. I make a Bergamot, Fir, and Patchouli blend and when using EO, all that is left after cure is Patchouli. I now use bergamot (and fir) FO. EDITED: There is also Bergaptene free bergamot EO if you're set on only using EO; as a result, it doesn't have to be...

    Using hops in beer soap

I really like NG's Beer FO. It smells enough like beer to be familiar, but doesn't have that day-old beer smell. It sells really well for me (bars and liquid). It accelerates (but is workable), and it thickened my LS too much; I had to thin it. For my LS I used beer in the paste and diluted...
