Volcano in HP soap. Garbage or fixable?

I agree--as long as you were able to get most of it back into the pot, you're probably okay. And welcome!

    2 Hopeful EO Bug-Off Blends

I've yet to find out, but some research suggests that it repels mosquitoes (and attracts bees). I bought some EO, but it didn't smell quite like I thought it would and my cats won't come anywhere near it (even when diluted in a carrier oil). So I'm trying out a lotion made with sunflower oil...

Volcano in HP soap. Garbage or fixable?

I wouldn't use it in another batch, nor would I plan to sell it. Your family must need soap, too? Let it cure, and as long as it doesn't zap, use it for yourself. EDITED TO ADD: Get yourself a thermometer--you shouldn't trust equipment today, just because it worked yesterday!

    2 Hopeful EO Bug-Off Blends

I think anything would be better than the LE. As far as soap, I did make a batch with 2 parts LE, 2 parts cedarwood, 1 part vanilla, and 1 part patchouli. I haven't used it yet (it's only been 3 weeks), but the cedarwood has taken over and I'm not getting a lot of the LE, so that's a plus. I...

    My soap bar is sweating

It happens--our soaps have natural glycerin in them and it attracts moisture. Has it been humid? I was set up at an outdoor event this past weekend and all of my soaps were sweating. Once I had them home and out of the heat and humidity, they were fine.

    Lavender swirls

And I did the same with LS paste. I had intended to increase the batch size, but while I was mixing (and looking back over the recipe), I realized I never increased the coconut oil. So by the time I had readjusted everything, I had A LOT of paste. Won't need to make that for a while. But...

    2 Hopeful EO Bug-Off Blends

There's just something about the LE that I can't stomach. Ironically, when I was blending, I thought, "if only I had some lemongrass to cut it," but I didn't. Then I received an order last week and the company sent me a 1/8 oz sample of lemongrass. Talk about "day late and dollar short."...

suggestions for places to buy EO and fragrances

I buy most of my EO from NDA. They have a great selection and affordable pricing, but as others have mentioned, they also have a $100 minimum (unless you want to pay the $20 admin fee). I love that they provide more information about the composition on their EO I use CG when I need just a...

    2 Hopeful EO Bug-Off Blends

Somehow I missed that one. I ended up using their Vanilla Select (vanillin at 10-15%). I ended up using a blend of lemon eucalyptus, cedarwood, vanilla FO, and patchouli. It smells awful! Something about the LE turns my stomach--especially when it's on my skin. Unfortunately, I received a...

    Soy Wax

As long as they are 100% hydrogenated soybean oil, with no additives, you can use SW for a lot of things. I use SW in body soap and shaving soap, lip balm (as a partial replacement for cocoa butter), and in a "conditioning cream pomade" that I use in my hair. I love the fact that SW washes out...

How to add honey to a lotion bar?

I used to use honey in an o/w lotion and never found it sticky. I think I used it at 5%. These days I use glycerin as the honey proved to be too much of a challenge for my preservative. My family still reminds me about my "carbonated lotion" that self-propelled out of the bottle. Never...

    Lye Only?

Traditionally, pretzels were dipped in a lye solution to promote browning and contribute flavor. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1013159-bavarian-style-soft-pretzels Baking soda can be used, but the pretzels are quite the same.

Mixing Essential and Fragrance Oils Together?

I recently placed an ordered with a "reputable company." After receiving my order, it took 2 weeks to get a reply from them about usage rates. . . .

Olive oil vs HO Sunflower oil

I use HO sunflower for the same reason. Also keep in mind that olive tends to have more stearic/palmitic than the high oleic oils mentioned above. Because of that, I like to blend HO sunflower with shea (or you could use lard to keep cost down) to bring the FA profile more inline with olive...

Using the kefir as a source of lactic acid

You could do an acid-base titration to determine the amount of NaOH (or KOH) needed to neutralize a given amount of kefir. Essentially, you’ll want to: 1. Make a NaOH solution of a known concentration. Weigh and record the combined weight of your container, the NaOH solution, and a...

    Coconut liquid soap so thin

Personally, if I were making 100% coconut oil soap just for cleaning, I'd leave the glycerin out and just use the watery soap. You might try reformulating and adding some high-oleic oil. With careful dilution and a bit of salt, you might end up with a thicker product.

    Practice makes... perfect disasters!

It made it to your mold so Congrats! Just a few comments/ observations: 1. I don't use a microwave for my Soy Wax soap so I can't comment on that. I use a 2 quart stainless steel saucepan and if the temperature dips, I just put it back on the burner for a few seconds. 2. I wonder if the...

    Texas Natural Supplies

I used to purchase quite a lot from them when I first started making lotion. It's been well over 10 years, but I don't remember having any complaints. I was window shopping a few months ago, and while pricing seemed okay, there shipping was unbelievably high and I went elsewhere. I remember...
