Mango Butter replacement for Stearic Acid - soap is MUCH harder! ???

I have done that and by adding the Mango butter it should have made the soap even softer, more conditioning and more creamy. The soap Ihad before with the same recipe w/ stearic acid was about the consistency of vasoline but maybe a little firmer. By exchanging the Steatic with Mango, I...

Donations for charities - Anyone do this?

There are a number of local charities which I would like to support however i can, but being cash poor, I wasn trying to figure out if some of these charities could make user of the types of goods we produce. I'm curious if anyone does anything liek this and if so, what have your experiences...

Mango Butter replacement for Stearic Acid - soap is MUCH harder! ???

IDK what happened to the image I posted but I couldn't get it to show up in editing either. I posted the characteristics for the 2 "oils" Yes, the bar needs to be very soft. it's even made with KOH.

Mango Butter replacement for Stearic Acid - soap is MUCH harder! ???

My recipe called for 2% Stearic Acid and I decided to replace it with Mango butter b/c it fit the needs of the recipe better. The soap needed to be semi-soft and it was pretty much with my original recipe with the 2% stearic. I figured by switching that little 2% with mango butter may make the...

100% Soy or Canola or Corn bar - anyone try this?

I did a 100% of soy and it took a LONG time to reach trace. it seemed to keep seperating the oil back out, around the edges of the bowl/container, as soon as I stopped mixing. It makes a really nice light cream/white color though! I did 100% NaOH and 50/50 Na/KOH. I also did a 80% Soy 20%...

Labeling ingredients - Laws regarding ingredient order

I know that there is a custom to list ingredients in an order of highest to lowest percentage (I've also seen some products listed alphabetically but don't remember if they were cosmetic) but what I want to know is if this is really LEGALLY required in the US. Also, if tallow is added, must...

Are you LYING about the sugar??

That is a good idea. I thought about something similar before but just passed it off. How do you measure the syrup, by the gram? If so what is the density? I read that after using it the first time, after which I made my own in a food processor (which tends to turn into a brick with a little...

Colorants (plant based) flakes vs powder vs dust

I'm wondering how fine the colourants are that you are adding. I've seen many soaps that have small specs of the plant material. IDK if this is desirable for some of you but for many of mine I want no specs. I've used a food processor to powder the flakes and pass it through a very fine...

Are you LYING about the sugar??

I did the same but with powdered sugar and it was a mushy mess at the bottom, it was awful!! Always dissolve the salts/sugars and then add the lye..

100% Soy or Canola or Corn bar - anyone try this?

Has anyone ever tried this? I'm not really interested in what you "think" will result from it, but what it really produces (sorry, I'm not dissing your experience, just have been surprised by some oils that should haven't acted as they did). Have you tried this and if so, what were your results?

    Castile soft and sweaty

If the liquid has a lot of lye in it then adding vinegar to it (the paper towel or whatever) should fizz up a good bit.

Weeping Soap - Lye, FO or something else?

Well that could be due to excessive glycerine - how much did you add? I can't see anything in that recipe that would cause that. There are some possibilities that the recipe could have been incorrect by adding either too much lye or too little of one of the oils. There are numerous ways...

    Why oh WHY???

I think you should post some good soap pics as well. I don't think these look that bad. Ideally you could do a side by side (either cut bars in half and take pics, or use image editor and copy them) to make it easier to see. I wonder if this isn't just a case of "maker perfection" where it...

    Castile soft and sweaty

I've made some batches where the ingredients were off because the scale was wrong (was off by 60% once). I measured way to much lye. IDK if something like this could have happened but it is worth considering. I'd wipe the "sweat" off and see if it reacts with vinegar.

Less soap scum with homemade/natural soaps?

Sorry I didn't get back to this thread earlier, I don't do anything special to my soaps, all are CP. for about 3 months I used 100% castile. Before I was using Ivory for a number of years. Unless someone is coming in and cleaning, then this isn't a joke :). The water hasn't changed either...

100% fractionated CO bar & uses for frac CO

I haven't worked with frac CO yet but I am considering getting some. I'm looking for something that is VERY cleansing that would be good in a laundry soap and or a degreaser. I'm not going to be doing a 20% SF or anything like that either. Has anyone ever done this or something close to...

Coconut 76 vs Palm Kernel Oil - why isn't PKO more popular?

While there is not a huge difference between the solid PKO and the flakes, the flakes are hydrogenated, which is like the difference between soybean oil and crisco/shortening (which is hydrogenated vege oil). For those who don't know that there is a difference, take a look at the chart on the...

    Capping tube moulds (PVC pipe)

That is what I was afraid of if I used an end cap. I guess the glued on lid I'm using might be one of the best options.

Greasing mould - necessary or not?

IDK if your moulds come apart but if they do I would suggest sanding it with 120, 220, 400 grit sand paper to get it very smooth. After it is smooth, apply epoxy resin and it will be smooth as glass and ultra durable. I have used lard to grease (which I've been told is pointless, lol) and...
