So you are just like me. I'm just very curious about some soap recipes and making them to see what happens :) Can't do always the same, it's boring. I'll make a HP castile soon, and today I'll make 90% lard (I'm sure castor will help, so not 100%)

Not every HP soap ends rustic. Never say never :) I do fluid HP, so it's quite smooth.

Here I can find easily lard, but tallow is not so commonly used. I've rendered some goat and beef tallow for my experiments. Our ancestors used lard for soap for ages. So using lard is the most reasonable choice for me :) It is high in oleic acid and good for skin.

Well, if it is alive, I'll share my experience too :) I did 40% Stearic acid, 20% Lard, 20% castor, 12% shea, 8% CO with 40/60 NaoH/KOH ratio. HP soap countertop method, molded in a pipe, frozen and then cut into pieces. Very good - semi-hard and great lathering. My husband loves it :)

Still waiting for cure, but the leftover piece is very luxury indeed! And I added some corn silk that gives an extra shine, like a pearl.

I made a small batch with 60% RBO, rest CO, 2 butters and castor. HP soap, feel very optimistic about it, the leftover piece lathers lovely and feels nice. Thank you for the inspiration! Now waiting for curing :)

Looks so good! After reading this thread I've composed a soap recipe with 60% RBO. Not cooked yet (I make HP soap), but I'm exited to try this:) I will use some chelator and rice flour to give it steadiness. Thank you for such interesting information and idea!

My 5 cents :) I did an HP soap with orange peels with combination of Orange EO and cinnamon EO. Maybe 6:1 ratio. I love it! Still curing, but the smell is definitely orange, with a bit bump of cinnamon to make it rich. Anchored with some tapioca starch.

I want just to post some update on my batch. I's been a month curing. The soap still looks a matte hard block, just shrink. Doesn't make proper lather in hands, but with a sponge there is a wonderful dense lather, which leaves the hands like silk! The bar doesn't dissolve easy in water like my...

I'm not sure I have to wait a year. But I have a great motive to do it like this: I can't add Black sea lye other way. My attempt to do it standard method failed and failed with big F. There was big liquid leaking at first, yesterday I tried to rebatch it, adding lye solution as I have to...

10 day after update. The soap bars shrink visually and are rock hard. I feel no more the smell of olives. No lye ash, none! The lather is quite nothing to mention, but there is some. Slippery feeling, but maybe it's the way it has to be. That's why I didn't took a pic. I did a Ph test with soapy...

Well, I plan to shred the pieces, make a weak lye solution and add little by little in a double boiler, to saponify all oil amount. After that I'l check with Ph meter I have to be sure it's done. I'll a spoon or two yogurt at the end. But still waiting my mojo to do it.

To illustrate. This is leaking prior cut. The cut pieces. Liquid is very lye heavy. And update 4 days after. Some crystals on the surface plus the mass feels a bit like rubber. So can I use this somehow? Can it turn to soap at all? How can I compensate missing lye?
