Soap recipe for older thin skin

Why wouldn't you want to give them soap? Are you punishing them for not showering? LOL Showering only once a week, in cooler water is MUCH better for your skin/health. Particularly if you have any eczema, psoriasis or dry skin.

March 2024 SMF Challenge - Stone Soaps!

Stone Soap (not soup) What a clever idea. If you want to make your own molds for stones, (or anything else) you can do it quite cheaply with a tube of silicone caulking from the hardware store & a box of cornstarch. Made by Barb was the first place I saw the technique -...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

So far organic coconut oil has been working very well for us. I hope it continues because it's a very economical source. Tallow is quite expensive and lard has ingredients I do not want in my soap like preservatives etc

Peanut oil and Baking Soda. Will it work?

My dad used to make lye this way. https://www.motherearthnews.com/homesteading-and-livestock/how-to-make-soap-from-ashes-zmaz72jfzfre/ FWIW I used to live next door to the Mother Earth News compound near Hendersonville North Carolina. Basically it was a bunch of yuppies who wanted to go back to...

Quick question, well and septic tank

If you are wiping grease off onto microfiber towels & then washing them to remove the grease, it's going the same place it would go from your kitchen sink. Into your septic system. I have a very small septic tank & am interested in this discussion, because I hadn't considered it. I use...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

The swirly soap is not the detoxing one. Interesting how everyone reacts differently. I wash my hands with 100% Coconut / 0% SF dish soap (which is AWESOME) and have no problem. But the one with the 4 oils is wonderful & softening. Oddly I bought the shea butter to use for lotion, and it made my...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

Not sure what you mean by purist? I think of myself as a purist because I use mostly organic, no artificial colors, no additives - but I think swirling is super cool LOL.... I just made shampoo with charcoal - swirled black/white :) beautious as my mom would say! I don't sell it I just make...

Soap recipe for older thin skin

I am about 70 and have had thin skin for years. I also had HORRID allergies to just about anything I handled, some years I had to soak my hands in oatmeal before I could use them. (If you sew, be aware there is formaldehyde, toluene, etc in the fabric finishing. Washing fabrics before use will...

Curious what the forum thinks of "Zote" Mexican soap (mainly for laundry)?

I did use Zote & wasn't happy with it. I also used Fels Naptha & it makes my skin breakout. I recently started making my 0% SF organic coconut oil laundry/dish soap & it's marvelous! It cleans everything so much better, and my hands no longer break out while folding clothes. In fact, my hands...

    First opinion diagnosis ~ Lupus

I have the same type of issues. Since you brought it up I want to point out that xanthan gum is a huge culprit that is kept very secret. It actually killed a bunch of babies when it was put into their formula to thicken it. It is the slimy black mold that grows on carrots when God is telling you...

    Soap as cancer prevention

Just to clarify @QuasiQuadrant I meant to spray the ACV on skin issues. It takes quite awhile (month or so) of spraying 3+ times per day, but one day, it will be gone. I had a mole on my chest that as I aged, started getting larger. ACV healed it and many other skin blemishes! You can't even...

    Soap as cancer prevention

WOW so much going on in this post. So many things to which I will try not to respond LOL Re soap invention. @MelissaG It will probably be very successful. It uses lipid nanoparticles to deliver drugs. Lipid nanoparticles can cross the blood/brain barrier and the placental barriers. Scary, scary...

Cement as a craft? heck yeah!

Her site is fantastic! She also makes molds out of silicone caulking from home depot. I had forgotten about her thanks for the reminder! Now I'm off to waste a couple hours looking at someone else be creative while I sit on the couch LOL

Cement as a craft? heck yeah!

I too hate useless garbage generated for no reason. So I always try to find uses for things. Unfortunately it means I have a huge pile of things that are actually garbage LOL anyway, I have a book called I think it's called foam craft but I can't find a title online. The woman who wrote it is...

    First opinion diagnosis ~ Lupus

Thank you for your very thoughtful & complete response. Unfortunately he is basically a hermit and absolutely will not go to any doctors including homeopath because I already suggested that. I'm sure his mental health is suffering as well as his body. Thanks for the info on books, I'm starting...

Super FAt (SF) % in Ivory Bar Soap

LOL that was my post too. But that was for bars this has already been ground up I don't think anyone would want it as a gift LOL

Super FAt (SF) % in Ivory Bar Soap

Does anyone know the SF% in Ivory bar soap? Reason I'm asking is that before I started making my own soap, I ground up ivory bars with some washing soda so it could be be done in a blender. I now know the SF in Ivory is too high to make good laundry soap. I'm thinking I can take my jug of...

    First opinion diagnosis ~ Lupus

Could you post the ingredients of your salve, or link? My friend's adult son is completely incapacitated by some type of rash/pain for years. I'm sure it's a *** injury from far back. Anyway, the only thing he will use is garlic because it's all that seems to work and he's rightly leery of...

Master's Brush Soap & Preservative ... looking for copycat recipe??

Thank you! I've been away, sorry for the delay in answering. Sounds good. Thank you for that! I usually use Murphy's, it's fantastic & eliminates the need for turps to clean. I keep forgetting to pick up some. (I might make it but I have the feeling it calls for KOH which I don't have) Thanks! Liz

I'm a relative newbie to soaping, and I'm trying to find a shaving soap recipe that doesn't have wax. Would you mind sharing more info on the soap you make? Thanks :)
