    Advice with an Etsy problem?

@AliOop good suggestions! I hadn’t thought to connect with my credit card company. I have left a very negative review we the seller. Being told “don’t worry” and then being ghosted is ridiculous! (I noted the review was posted but it is buried at the bottom of the vendor’s reviews 🙄)

    Advice with an Etsy problem?

Looking for advice! I’m not a frequent Etsy buyer - but I made a purchase a month ago and my package disappeared en route from India on November 5. The last tracking on Etsy showed it arrived Nov 5 in either Montreal (which is over 3500 kms from my home in Alberta), or going back to Zurich. The...

Need help with a soap recipe for chemo patient

Olive soap can be irritating for some people. I wasn’t making soap when I was undergoing chemo but wish I was! I suspect a very mild, unscented, lard based soap would be good. Try for a cleansing value of five or less - it will still clean but won’t dry the skin. If you want bubbles, add a tsp...

What to label "lard" on ingredient list?

Rarely does anyone pay attention to ingredients in my experience, unless they are vegans, or have religious restrictions against pork. But I do talk about my ingredients AND I’m very clear that I use a lot of lard. Providing clear and honest information helps people to understand what makes...

    Lard

@AliOop I’m in Canada so likely have a different source from your Costco. I just checked and the brand is Saporito, produced in Canada. Comes in a 20 kilo (about 50 lb) box from the Costco business centre here. Additives are BHT and citric acid. Those are normal additives - I suspect a lot of...

    Lard

after a couple years of rendering lard from a local Berkshire pig farmer, I decided to try a box of lard from Costco. And I’ve traded the labour of rendering for the labour of getting all the foam and bubbles out of the melted Costco lard! Sigh. I don’t know if it’s the citric acid or another...

Trying to make a more luxurious hard bar of soap and eliminate scum

You’ve received great advice on this thread - I’d just add that if you have hard water, and are using your soap to take a bath, you are going to have soap scum. Chelators to lessen scum, and lower or zero superfat, will not compensate for the amount of hard water to fill a tub! Prepare to scrub...

Why are my silicone molds warping?

@Ekuzo thanks for sharing the video! Yes, I “may” be a natural - and I “might” turn into a naturally tidy person one day too! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I do appreciate the video - I may give freezer paper a try next week when I make my next soap

Why are my silicone molds warping?

@Ekuzo i may try that sometime as I now have 2 spare boxes! I have freezer paper but I’m all thumbs when it comes to folding. (I LOVE soaping but the wrapping is no fun for me. So if it turns out that I like the folding of freezer paper to make a precisely sized liner I’ll be pleasantly...

Why are my silicone molds warping?

@Mobjack Bay Thanks for the tip! I tried it, following your process. No change in the warped bottoms😥. Oh well - Maybe one day I will decide that the insanely pricey silicone moulds are worth it; in the meantime, I guess it’s another Amazon purchase.

Why are my silicone molds warping?

I like the warm bricks as no electricity is required, once I’ve warmed them in the oven 😁 I do have a couple of heating pads but they get good use to heat my bed over the winter 😁 I am sure you are right; cheap silicone can warp. I have used each of the moulds at least 50 times so I guess they...

Why are my silicone molds warping?

Thanks, I will try that - although the silicone appears to have stretched so I’m not sure it will resume its original shape. I’ve got some weights that will fit nicely. Yes, could be the many CPOPs over time. I turn the oven on to its lowest setting and turn it off when the soap goes in. (I...

Why are my silicone molds warping?

Hey friends; I’m just 2.5 years into my soapmaking journey and, as we seem to do, I’ve acquired a whole bunch of different molds. The ones I go to most are the first molds I bought- an inexpensive pair of loaf molds in wooden boxes from Amazon. They’ve been great until just recently - I had a 2...

How to make bath salts that don't clump? (I've tried everything)

What percentage of dendritic salts are you using? I think about 10% is recommended. Also, keeping the salts outside bathroom or other high humidity areas, and sealed in a good ziplock should help. You don’t want any moisture getting into the salts!

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I just made my first batch of bath salts, using a Humblebee recipe. As Marie would say, “swoon”! I made her Lavender Oats Foaming Bath Salts. Lovely!

    Lotion bar best oils?

I’m so happy to see this thread! I made a lotion bar last year but wasn’t really thrilled with it. I’m happy to see the combined wisdom and suggestions from the lovely people here so I will proceed with some of your recommendations. Thank you! (A question for @dmcgee5034 , @cmzaha, @Zing - I...

    Curiosity about lotion bars

Well, darn it - I LOVE a good recipe, and I will have to place an order for a few different waxes to try this out! I’ve just started down the rabbit hole of salves and balms, It’s only a problem because I can’t find these local to me and shipping is SOO pricey! I just made a 320 km return trip...
