    gel phase invention needed

I leave a covered aluminum buffet pan half filled with water on the bottom rack of my soap oven. When I CPOP I heat it to 170 when I start making the batch, by the time I am ready for it to go in, the water has heated and helps the oven retain the heat. Then I turn off the oven, turn on the...

Hi! Question about seasoned duck lard...

Schmaltz in anything other than matzo balls, chopped liver and latkes is a sacrilege! ;)

    Liquid pool over soap mold

I have had two fragrance oils pool like that. They eventually reabsorbed. Interestingly they were both orange based scents.

Holidays in the time of Covid

I just made turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts. I usually have so much more but with just two of us it was plenty. We usually have three stuffings and tons of veggie sides. I even forsook the buttermilk rolls this year :(. Tonight I am using the leftover mashed potatoes...

Holidays in the time of Covid

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I was grumbling a little about missing the kids and my sisters and my husband just reminded me how very much we have to be thankful for. We do!

Green mica made my soap red??

I have a green that goes diarrhea brown before morphing back to a lovely green. Freaked me out the first time! I cut it and stuck in my "yuck" curing area and a few days later it I was surprised to see such a nice green.

Entry thread - November 2020 SMF challenge - string pull technique

Like dibbles I use more than one color. For some reason I thought about iris. I used embroidery floss because I found it easier to work with than the kitchen twine I used in my test. I wanted something really flexible. I experimented with different pulls and layered pulls. I did come up...

    Lard and Tallow

I love lard in soap and if you want a lard - tallow mix that makes a great soap try Walmart great value shortening with tallow and lard. It does have a small amount of soy but I haven't had any issues with it at all. Makes a very nice bar of soap. I was pretty shocked by just how good.

Holidays in the time of Covid

Sounds like a great time! How about Hawaiian roll sliders, (turkey and cranberry), stuffing fingers with green bean casserole dip and mashed potato poppers. I would love a challenge like that.

Holidays in the time of Covid

We faced that when my mom and dad moved when they retired. I picked up the torch for the locals (meaning NY and NJ) relatives and my holiday has grown year by year. I will so miss this Thanksgiving as I have felt the need to "keep family together" since my mom and dad passed. Family is so...

Holidays in the time of Covid

Thank you. We are all praying for the best. Erlene I hope everything is okay! We celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas and I haven't even wrapped my head around that! I am getting most of the kids air fryers because they are old and haven't given me grandchildren yet. When they give me...

Holidays in the time of Covid

We are in NY and our numbers are low but going up. My kids are in Brooklyn and my sisters are two blocks away. One of my sisters is a teacher and her husband works at a college. My other sister is having surgery Monday and may have a bad diagnosis and since the Dr. has already brought up chemo...

Holidays in the time of Covid

I am wondering how many of you are planning traditional holiday celebrations and who is altering plans this year. I usually host Thanksgiving and it can be 25 people. I am not doing it this year and everyone seems so disappointed. I feel guilty but I am afraid of exposing some of us older...

SMF November Challenge 2020 - String Pull Technique

I experimented this weekend and found that thicker soap works better. I did get a lot of soda ash though. I am wondering if you can pop it into the oven for a few to help the unsaponified soap and avoid soda ash. At least the bars are made and my new log splitter works great!

Entry thread for the October 2020 Challenge - Tall and Skinny Shimmy

I actually enjoyed the challenge and wish I could have tried it again. I just didn’t get a chance. I discovered a higher OO combination I like, sample use points to no slime and bubbles! That in itself is huge. I never get upset about my challenge efforts. I learn a lot, have fun and do my...
