    Butterfly swirl

Thanks I just finished my first attempt. I did the drop swirl hangar method. My trace was very light so I don't think I got what I was looking for. I think it is going to look awesome, just not butterfly like. Here is the top

    Butterfly swirl

I will definitely post pics and links as I go. I will be doing my first attempt today. I would like to be able to get the technique down well enough to be able to produce some consistency. It is going to be a lot of trial and error I am not getting my hopes up too much. Who knows if I can even...

    Butterfly swirl

I have been almost constantly thinking about trying to create a butterfly soap swirl. I think there are 2 techniques that could result in one bar looking like half a butterfly. I think some run a hangar through a tilted tiger/dandelion swirl. Others start with a basic drop swirl and add the...

    Measurement

Swift recommends using the preservative besed on recipe before sugar. I use optiphen not the plus version for my scrubs. I think it is a good idea to add a preservative if there is a chance water could get into the scrub in the shower. For tons of info go to www.swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com

    Oil/lye mixture temperature

I don't fiddle with temps either. I have used the heat transfer method on occasion too. Temps need to be ranged for the ht method to work. I will say that if you combine oil and lye too hot you will have sos. I am sure this is not news to most but just reading through this it sounds like it...

    Tallow and selling appeal

I don't sell buy I have been thinking about it more in the last year. A lot of people want to buy my soaps. Most of my recipes use lard, tallow or both. I think it is best to sell a product that you love and are passionate about. I know my skin loves lard and because of that I feel that if I...

Any negatives of placing soap in freezer?

I don't usually use palm so that may be the difference.

Any negatives of placing soap in freezer?

I don't gel most of my soaps. I really prefer the creamy feel of bars that don't gel. I definitely don't get any gritty texture.

    Painting mp soaps

I have heard of soap paints but I don't know if they really exist or where one might find them. Maybe worth some research though.

Always use a soap calc, even when...

If it didn't zap it shouldn't be lye heavy. Low to no superfat is much better than lye heavy. Ph test strips really don't give me any usable information. sounds like a good laundry soap.

    Red Colorant for CP

My understanding is if they are listed ph stable they will be true in cp. I know they just redid their website but they used to have pics of what to expect. Their tomato red is definitely stable and awesome.

    Titanium Dioxide Replacement

I'm not shunt but I have used it. It is about the same maybe a touch more. Make sure you stick blend it in really well. If you don't have a stick blender you might have problems getting it incorporated.

Liquid soap going bad after a few months

This is the time of year some of my ls gets cloudy. I think it is due to the temps going below 70. Not all my recipes do this though.

    pH of LS

I agree ^^^ unless there is a preservative that only works within a ph range.

Is it okay to start making liquid soap as a beginner?

Personally I use my stainless steel tools and equipment for soap and food use. Gasp, the horror. As long as you clean it after soaping I don't see how it could cause any issues. I have never had any problems with stainless. Just don't use wood plastic or anything else for food after soaping...

    pH of LS

How are you testing? My guess is that the strips you are using are inaccurate or the device needs calibration. If your ls legitimately had a ph of 7 it would not be soap. I believe the lowest ph possible is 8.5 and lower that that you have fatty acids and water. Can I ask why you are testing at...

Brambleberrys summer melon spritzer is awesome! Very true melon scent that sticks and isn't too overpowering or sickly sweet. Some cucumber melons end up with a gross floral note this does not. It is a dream to work with too slows trace for me. Very slight discolor but easily colored.

    Goats Milk Powder

I think you might have better luck with fresh or caned (diluted if necessary). I tried to make gm lotion a while back with the powder and couldn't get it right. Can I ask what percentage of gm you are trying to formulate with? If it is over 20% try lowering it.
