What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my first attempt at goat milk soap! After trying out the new base recipe I'm playing with in the above Jack Frost test soap and loving how creamy and hard it already is, I decided to use the same base recipe with goat milk and colloidal oats.... Yikes, it traces significantly faster! It's...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made a test batch tonight using jack frost fragrance. I got impatient and soaped at 125° F with a palm heavy recipe and was pleasantly surprised at how long I had to work with it. Of course, I didn't color, swirl, or texture... Just mixed, poured, covered, amd called it a night.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I love the color I get in soaps made with paprika infused olive oil, but I don't like that the color disappears over time. I made a soap with paprika infused olive oil that turned out a surprising shade of pink that quickly turned the same orange shade as your soap pictured on the left. The...

    zany Castile soap with pictures

Thank you. I can get HO sunflower locally to try, but rice bran is literally nowhere around here. I'd rather buy a small quantity locally to try before buying larger quantities kwim

    is it possible ?

Apparently, I forgot to specify the word "coconut" in the last sentence in my previous post. I was wondering why I got a shocked reaction from @AliOop and now it makes sense! 😂

    zany Castile soap with pictures

I'll check our local restaurant supply store today, but I doubt they carry RBO. Trader Joe's is a half hour drive to the closest big city for me and I hate city traffic..... But there's all natural locally owned store near there that I totally forgot about until you jogged my memory. I bet...

    zany Castile soap with pictures

Where? I can find HO sunflower locally, but it's more expensive than olive oil and olive oil has literally doubled in price here in less than a year. As for RBO, I can't find any locally ANYWHERE to try.

    zany Castile soap with pictures

Beautiful! I use this recipe almost exclusively because my skin is soooo sensitive. I cannot use coconut oil over 10% or I get dry, flaky, itchy, and hives. That said, some skin types don't do well with olive oil at all. They typically do better with high lard soaps, which are also gentle and...

    is it possible ?

I'm in the same age bracket and hate the feel of anything left on my skin, too. I do occasionally need moisture, but it's rare. I use my version of Zany's no-slime recipe with aloe because my skin seems to really like humectants rather than oils/butters. My skin super dries out if I use higher...

What soapy thing have you done today?

FIL asked for more of his favorite soap (the grey soap with scrubbies) so I made more charcoal and pumice soap today and it's under cover til tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

    Camel hump fat

This thread says to use carrot seed oil in the soap calculator. Thread 'Camel hump fat' https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/camel-hump-fat.70596/ Here's some other interesting threads: Thread 'Camel Fat' https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/camel-fat.68517/ Thread 'Hump fat soap - 1st...

    Camel hump fat

I just read this link, but it only lists the SAP value for using KOH, not NaOH. I do like that there is info on it's fatty acid profile, though. Very interesting.

    Which Auson pine tar?

For anyone looking this up in the future: It was the aloe gel that caused the spots. Turns out, I forgot to strain the pulp in the last batch of aloe gel I made and froze. Lesson learned.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today, I pulled my aloe gel out of the freezer, thawed it all, gave it a hearty whiz with the sb and strained it.... lots of pulp. I guess I forgot that part of my normal procedure when I made this particular batch of aloe gel. Oops. At least now I know where I went wrong with my recent first...

    Rubin's Vase and another halo

I like the crackled lines in the vase and would've assumed it was intentional if not for your post. I also love that the mirror images aren't identical. I didn't realize it was a vase at first glance. I saw two lovers about to kiss.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my first pine tar soap late last night and cut it a little after lunch today. Will someone please tell me what all the spots are throughout the soap? More importantly, is it safe? I don't think my soap looks bad but I was aiming for the look of Elly's Everyday Soapmaking and I definitely...

    Which Auson pine tar?

I made my pine tar soap in ZNSC late last night and cut this afternoon. I had to get creative and cut the bars the way most of you cut woodgrain soaps in order to cut off the ugly top layer for a smoother finish. Anyone care to educate me on why my soap looks spotted? I'd like to get a smooth...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made pine tar soap for the first time! I won't be surprised if it's butt ugly and full of holes because I barely got it all in the mold, but it was seriously the most fun I've had soapmaking to date! I soaped at 96°F hand stirring and it was ready to pour in less than a minute flat! I am so...

    Which Auson pine tar?

I ordered the 773. It's most definitely campfire smelling. Reminds me of the smell of all the clothes after a weeklong camping trip or after visiting someone in winter who heats their home with a woodburning stove.
