Soap gone wrong! Help me diagnose, please?

I have never seen a rebatch turn out looking better than the original soap - just FYI. We had someone on here rebatch the same batch soap 6 or 7 times - because 'It is just ugly'. While I agree it is good to know how to do it should you ever have to - it is not a fix for appearance in my...

Soap gone wrong! Help me diagnose, please?

Ok, first off - I would not rebatch this right away. Let it sit for a week or 2. The oils will probably absorb back in and you will be fine. Second - it will probably be zappy for a few days. thats normal and nothing to worry about. Third - I think the beer was the culprit for the...

    CP Felted Soap Problem

I think this is how I am going to handle things from now on. I'll just go into lurk mode, and not offend people any more.

What soapy thing have you done today?

1 oz is alot of water in a pound of batter. In my recipe that would take my 33% lye concentration to 29% - which is a pretty impressive change.

    Whipped Soap?

We did an SMF challenge last year for whipped soaps. Here is the thread. http://www.soapmakingforum.com/showthread.php?t=58858

    So, about colorants...

You could try mixing them with glycerin. But I have no idea if that will activate the fizz.

Is Pyrex all right for one use?

She also talks about soap 'nourishing' your skin, and being 'moisturizing'. There is another YT soaper who master batches lye in old pasta sauce and pickle jars. And I KNOW those will explode just by sudden heat changes - because it has happened to me more than once.

Is Pyrex all right for one use?

the 2.5 quart containers are microwave safe and will hold 3 lbs. they are flexible enough that you can form a spout by squeezing the sides. It important to make sure your batter is evenly mixed - but it isn't because of oil residue - its just to make sure all of your oil is mixed in. And...

Is Pyrex all right for one use?

No, there is no 'thin layer of oil' protecting the glass from the lye. The glass is still exposed to the high pH environment, is still exposed to NaOH. This is as much a misconception as adding SF at trace protects it from the lye in CP soap. Really, go buy a couple of paint mixing buckets...

    Dragonsblood and Sandalwood Patchouli

It is not at all what I wanted. It does have a lava rock or maybe those gas stone firepit look. Not sure why I reached for ac and not my black micas. I just forgot ac really speeds up trace as it absorbs the water from the lye. Next time I'll just let the soap brown, and the colors will...

    Dragonsblood and Sandalwood Patchouli

Yes it was your FO. The main portion is activated charcoal. It set up pretty fast, as ac tends to so when I poured the colors, which were still very thin, I had to use a spoon to swirl. The ac was so thick it was like cheese curds, so it stayed in big chunks. There is no fo in the colors...

    SoapCalc Surprise

It saved them as cookies or temp files on your computer. Anytime you purged your cookies and temp files (or your anti-virus did it for you), used a different browser, accessed the site from a different computer - you lost your saved recipes on Soapcalc. Soapee has always saved them server side.

    Lye concentration and gel

I was able to get my 40% concentration 100% OO soap to gel. Also, I have made 100% CO soap with a 40% concentration for laundry soap and it gelled with no added heat. Her soap recipe won't gel at the temps she was using. I am sure at some point if she had added enough heat the high...

    Lye concentration and gel

Higher lye concentration just means the soap requires more heat to gel. So any soap will gel if it gets hot enough. You will just have to experiment to find out what your recipe needs at each concentration.

Soaping with Pomace, Woes of a Kiwi

Soy oil is not a good soaping oil. It had too much linoleic and linolenic fatty acids, and can cause DOS

    FO's

It probably got removed by the admins. They have pretty strict rules about vendors posting. I did not see if the person was a forum supporter, but I guess if they were they could have deleted their own post. Anyway, I have no skin in this game - I have never used Mad Oils, because Nurture...
